Leigh has asked what would be this year's Crufts Supreme Champion in another thread. To make it interesting we are offering a year's free advanced membership of Champdogs to the person who correctly guesses the breed of the winning dog at Crufts. Just add your guess to this thread.

In addition if you happen to own the winning dog you will also qualify for a year's free membership, even if you guess incorrectly :)

Closing Date for entries: Midnight March 6th 2002. Only registered forum members may enter. One vote per member. The winner will be drawn at random in the event of more than one person correctly specifing the correct breed

BTW. What is the correct title for the dog that takes best in show at Crufts ?
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 25.02.02 17:27 UTC
Best in Show. As to what will win, hang on whilst I go and check whos judging then I'll make a quess and still be wrong. JH
- By fleetgold [gb] Date 25.02.02 18:41 UTC
Probably won't be right as the big winners of the year tend to not win at Crufts but I'll go for the Peke.

As for what the winner is called; isn't it just Best In Show?

Isn't it Supreme Champion?

Pam n boys
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 25.02.02 19:38 UTC
No, thats what the BBC call it, it's the Best in Show just like any other Championship or Open show. In fact it does not have to be a champion. It is chosen from the group winners who are chosen from the BOB and BOB's are not always champions. Having said that it probable will be, a champion that is. JH

Longdog

BTW Jackie BIS judge is Pamela Cross-Stern
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 25.02.02 20:57 UTC
Thanks admin, usualy look at the group judge but don't have the termerity to take note of the BIS Judge.
- By weims [gb] Date 25.02.02 20:58 UTC
Hi I think an Irish Setter.

Lynn

My guess for the CRUFTS BEST IN SHOW (?correct title) will be a Dandie Dinmont Terrier because life's full of surprises and people win the lottery at 14 million to one you know.
- By lisa [gb] Date 25.02.02 22:41 UTC
Yipeeeee thanks Dawn - sorry everyone else but I am with her on this one - An afghan, ooh please, I'll have your babies etc.................
However knowing my luck it will be a black than wins and I'll still be left with an orrible black masked gold. :)

Still here hoping whoever wins is a much loved family pet, as they all should be(No Oscar Lord Afghan of the west Midlands that does not include you ;) )
- By JoFlatcoat (Moderator) [gb] Date 25.02.02 22:43 UTC
My guess for Best in Show is a German Shorthaired Pointer, but don't ask me why - it's the first thought that came into my head

There is no tiltle. the dog is simply best in show. the supreme champion title is something the media invented, and some folk seem happy to go along with.

It would be quite possible for a dog to win BIS at Crufts on the day of getting their first CC, and then never become a Champion. If it is a non CC breed, it will also never be a champion (unless they are granted and it wins 3 in the usual way).
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 26.02.02 06:52 UTC
I have given it a good deal of thought and with all my years being interested in dogs, have come to the conclusion that I have not got a clue. :D :D

However better stick with my own group and I'll go for a beagle.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 26.02.02 11:29 UTC
Come on Jackie where is the breed loyalty, how about the Elkhound for Best In show :D If I was a betting woman and it ever came to pass I would win a fortune as the odds would be so long. Elkhound bitches won the Hound Group in '96 and '99. Can't see it happening though, even if a Scandinavian was doing Best In Show!! :(

No one would have ever given odds for a Basenji going best though! I admire Paul singleton's stance. He refused to do any of the TV interviews etc that you get after Crufts like Blue Peter, for fear of getting the breed noticed too much by the public, who would have all thought nice littele dog, and doesn't bark. They howl and Jodel something rotten to make up for lack of Bark, and are definately an aquired taste, being ahound of terrrier size not the easioest dog for a novice!
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 26.02.02 12:38 UTC
Oh Barbara, I could not bear it, just think what would happen if our breed became the in thing. No one would believe you when you tell them that that white teddy bear would turn into a selfwilled, adult. PLEASE DON'T EVEN THINK IT. JH
- By Brainless [gb] Date 27.02.02 00:02 UTC
We will just have to have BIS somewhere else then! The general public still all seem to beleive there is only one Dog show, and the village fete of course LOL
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 27.02.02 07:03 UTC
BB, you can win BIS any where else you fancy but not Crufts PLEASE. I will if I have to accept a Group win but even they are becoming a bit to often for my liking. Just reminded me of a story. When Crystal won group my very elderly Mum was watching on the TV at her care home whilst my sister was visiting her. When Crystal won my poor Mum was convinced that it was my dog and despited the fact that I look nothing like Brian nothing would convince her otherwise. Told everyone I had won Crufts, very embarrassing. And there was I pleased with a third in Limit. JH
- By Brainless [gb] Date 27.02.02 10:11 UTC
Me I would never win best in show!!!! I found it hard enough to have to go in two groups with miss rugby tackler! At WKC Elaine got tackled in the group ring, much to Mike Stockmans amusement!

Brian he could do it standing on his head, how does he get them so good! He always looks like he isn't trying at all, just out for a stroll when he moves them! :D

Me I come in crooked to the judge, garot myself on the ropes, or bump into the person in front due to watching my dog :D
- By doggys4ever [gb] Date 26.02.02 08:37 UTC
Hi,

Best in Show at Crufts has got to be CH.Aedan Double Delight ~ the Toy Poodle.

- By digger [gb] Date 26.02.02 09:09 UTC
I'm going with the breed my Grandad used to breed and show - Yorkshire Terrier..... (and hope and pray it's not Sprigner Spaniel)

Fran
- By Jude [gb] Date 26.02.02 09:29 UTC
I hope and pray it is a Springer Spaniel ........and not a Yorkshire Terrier :)
- By Naomi [gb] Date 26.02.02 09:30 UTC
Does my guess still stand from the other thread, if not I think that it will be the Giant Schnauzer, Zamoranos Picaaso.
Naomi
- By LynnT [us] Date 26.02.02 13:07 UTC
I know it won't happen in a million years, but I'm voting for a Border Collie!
LynnT
- By issysmum [gb] Date 26.02.02 13:34 UTC
I think it'll be a Cocker Spaniel.

- By Isabel Date 26.02.02 21:22 UTC
Short odds on that one Fiona, they have won the most often.
- By issysmum [gb] Date 26.02.02 21:46 UTC
I know, I had a look at the Crufts past champions!!!

- By 9thM [gb] Date 26.02.02 14:06 UTC
A BC would be nice. A red and white one.

But think of all the ones that would end up in rescue in 12/18 months. :(
- By satincollie (Moderator) Date 26.02.02 18:04 UTC
Red and white not a chance lovely colour just not enough of them shown.I would love it to be a border collie but doubt it very much I think I'll guess a kerry blue
- By bobby70 [gb] Date 27.02.02 01:17 UTC
i would like to see a Stafford win, as they have not won for a very very long time but there are to many in rescue already so i think that i will go for the

GIANT SCHNAUZER(hope that is right)
Bobby
- By John [gb] Date 07.03.02 19:51 UTC
After seeing Picaaso in the group on TV tonight I would not be supprised if you have it in the bag Naomi!

John
- By fleetgold [gb] Date 07.03.02 23:02 UTC
Yes, he looked gorgeous didn't he. I liked the working group, some very super dogs there, did a lot more for me than the pastoral group.

piccasao , the australian shephard and the st bernard i thought stood out tonight. -couldnt help noticing the commentators remark about the old english should be unexaggerated, !!!had it had an electric shock!!!or was it just having a bad hair day,im sure its not at all like that left as nature intended,

- By dizzy [gb] Date 08.03.02 18:21 UTC
thanks for that--what a smart .alert and unexagerated dog, --are they docked or are they born bobbed?
- By philippa [gb] Date 08.03.02 18:41 UTC
Hi dizzy, I have an Aussie, some are born docked, some are not. They come in red merle, blue merle, red tricolour and blacktricolour, but there are all sorts of other colour combinations tht shouldnt be there at all :)
They are great dogs, very bright, but tend to be very, very vocal.
At the moment. as a realatively new breed in this country, type tends to vary a lot.
- By 9thM [gb] Date 26.02.02 14:08 UTC
A clumber spaniel. (Again) Think of all the hairs it would leave on the carpet in the Best in Show ring
- By fortis [gb] Date 26.02.02 15:03 UTC
I'll go for a black labrador retriever.
Cathy.
- By gina [gb] Date 26.02.02 19:54 UTC
Gotta go for a lhasa not that I'm biased or anything (and not that I have ever been to a dog show......yet) :o
- By gary2 [gb] Date 26.02.02 18:54 UTC
Petit Bassett Griffon Vendeen
Am I being disloyal not to pick my own group or breed?

Gary
- By KateM Date 27.02.02 11:32 UTC
I am also going to have to be disloyal - there is no chance of a Vallhund winning - little boring grey dogs tend not to win groups!

I think my money would be on an Australian Shepherd

Kate
- By Leigh [us] Date 27.02.02 12:31 UTC
Welcome to the forum Kate :-)
- By Freeway [gb] Date 02.03.02 16:52 UTC
It would be nice but I hope not.

I reckon it will be the Peke Ch. Yakee A Dangerous Liaison (I think that's the one)
- By Ashanie [eu] Date 07.03.02 10:40 UTC
Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen is my choice

BEDLINGTON TERRIER ?
Sara
- By LongDog [gb] Date 26.02.02 19:44 UTC
I know I said the Affy B U T really would prefer the Whippet to win especially if it's our pups' sire.
- By Reefer [gb] Date 26.02.02 20:35 UTC
Oh darn I was going to go for Bedlington Terrier - only because I know someone who is entering!
- By SaraW [gb] Date 26.02.02 21:21 UTC
Hi Reefer - still go for the Bedlington as there is NO rule that says there can't be more than one person pick a breed. IF by some remote chance a Bedlington wins they'll pick the winning name out a hat :D
