Hello i am sure most of you are aware of my Paris's health problems and the problems she has faced so far in her short life. Well she has a new one and i am totally confused by it and scared that this is going to be the one to push me into making a speedier decision about her being pts. The problem is one of her eyes has gone completly black, she has hazel brown eyes but one of them has gone :(
Has anyone else come across this before, there is no discharge, it does not seem to be bothering her and i am totally at a loss on this. I am phoning the vet in the morning to talk it over but i am reluctant to take her there as she gets so up-set by it all that i did not want to do that unless her time had come. Please please if anyone has come across this before could they let me know as i would like to get some idea so i am prepared for when i speak to him as i know he will also be reluctant to do more with her and i would be happier if i got more than 1 opinion. Sorry if i am blabbering but i cannot belive this has happened aswell :( :(

Hiya, so sorry that some thing MIGHT be wrong with Paris, i dont know what it could be and i dont think i would say if i did this is for a vet, so please try not to panic to much ( I  know its easy for me to say) but she will know something is upsetting you, so stay as normal as you can, and if she isnt in any pain thats good, god bless to you both and let us know what the vet thinks.

Do you mean the eye ball or the surrounding area. One thing which might cause the eye ball to appear to have gone black is if the pupil is totally dilated for some reason. One reason for this is if a dog has hit it's head and caused the injury. I saw one such dog at eye testing years ago the distraught owner had dropped a teaspoon which hit the dog on the head and then it's pupil went as wide it could go and looked black.

Hello Paris and i have just returned from the vets and it's good and bad news. The good news is she cme home with me and for that i am extremley grateful, she still has some vision in her eye and after a very lengthy disscusion we decided that she still has some time before we have to come to the hard decision. She is in the first stages of developing cataracts or glaucoma but at this stage it is to early to tell which one, but she does still have some vision in it and is not in any pain. Her breathing has got a bit worse but as they are unsure of how long it will be till her eye gets any worse or if it will develop in her remaining good eye we have decided she still has loads to give us and we have loads of love to give her. We have made an aggrement with our vet though that as soon as her eyes do get worse or she begins to squint we will end her days then as we do not want her to be in any pain, or have to feel anything more than she does now. I am extremly grateful to all those who have supported us and offered the advice, thank-you Emma.

Hi Emma,
As long as Paris is in no pain you are doing the right thing. I had a bitch some years ago whose eyes went very black. She had age-related cataracts (she was 15 when she died) and her pupils were permanently fully dilated to let in as much light as possible. She managed very well for her last couple of years. They adapt extremely well, as sight is less important to them than it is to us.

Hoping you have and Paris have a long, happy time left.
:)

Hi Emma,
Only just read your post (i don't have a computer at home). I assume you have been to the vets by now, how did it go?
I wouldn't like to say what the problem is, but the vet should be able to help.
Thingking of you. Karen.
