i have been offerd a alaskan malamute but it is only 7 weeks old will this be a problem in the future down to his behaviour?Would you recomend 12 weeks with mum

personally I think with a large breed like a malamute, 7/8 weeks is a good age to get a new puppy.
I don't think the pup would gain anything by spending another 5 weeks with his mum & littermates. You can give him one to one attention. - I know there are people on here who'll disagree with me.

My friend breeds Malamutes & they are so cute as babies.

Good luck

It's usually only toy breeds (small and fragile) that benefit from leaving later. For most big, strong, healthy pups 7-8 weeks is ideal.

I agree,it seems that pups at 7-8 weeks have a better chance of bonding with new owner than at say 12 weeks, but everybody has their own opinion, sandra.

Yes, 7 to 8 weeks is fine, lucky girl, enjoy your pup.

Has the breeder done the required health checks on both parents? Is the breeder a member of the breed club (AMCUK)? Will the breeder provide back up care once you have taken the pup home? Is the puppy KC registered?

I ask the questions because *most* good breeders have a waiting list for their pups ....to ask about the availability of a Malamute pup and then to be offered one in a matter of a few days is unusual (not impossible , but unusual)

yes, this age is fine, so long as puppies are well socialised, properly weaned and the training and socialisation continues when you get it home. good luck!

We had our whippet pup at seven weeks he's just over 7 months now and absolutely lovely if I do say so myself, as we drove away our breeder was still shouting socialise, socialise, socialise so we took him everywhere carrying him in our arms where ever we went and I'm sure thats why he's such a laid back dog.
