I no this has been discussed before on here but I found this article that was pretty interesting:

I read this and I now I'm really confused if I'm just wasting my money on all these shots once a year....The other question, I get 3 year rabie shots for my dogs are these as needed every 3 years as well or pointless? I started thinking more after reading this our children when babies get so many needles and then some more in grade 5 I think and pretty much thats all. We humans are not getting shots/needles once a year to stay healthy so why do our dogs? I printed this out and when I have to go back to my vet I'm brining it to see what she thinks, she is pretty honest so I'm sure I'll get an honest answer...Cause I'm thinking to only bring them in every 3 years for their rabbie shots if these are really needed...rather then that only when they need to go see the vet.

Are they Needed

I have previously had cats that were outdoor cats and had no vaccinations apart from their first kitten ones.  One lived to 17 with no problems and the others are still alive and healthy (don't now live with me).  My current pets (a cat and a dog) were vaccinated when I got them and I've kept all jabs up to date.  The main reason is that I have to kennel both of them quite frequently and kennels insist on full vaccination history.  Also, a lot of insurance policies now won't pay out on a lot of things if you haven't kept your jabs up to date.  It's about £20 a year.  Not a huge price to pay, although I do think sometimes the vets give you a lot of chat about what your dog "might" need etc etc, sometimes I agree, sometimes I don't.

Regarding insurance & vaccines, as far as I know, if you don`t vaccinate the only thing your insurance doesn`t cover is the diseases the vaccines would cover. They are still covered for everythng else :)
