i recently bought a rottweiler and at the time knew nothing about KC registering him, i have now realsied that he was not regstered when i bought him and that i cant register him if his partents arent. i want to put him for stud when he matures, will i still be able to do this if he is not registered.
I think you'd find it extremely difficult for anyone to be interested in using him quite honestly. Is he a pup still? If not, has he had his elbows and hips scored???? Why do you want to put him out to stud? Sorry so many questions but all relevant.

He won't have been hip scored as he's not KC registered.

Sorry to say that however nice a dog is unless it is registered, most people will not be interested, because puppies born to unregistered parents are on the same level as cross breeds, nice dogs but not able to be sold to experienced people who want to show or breed and the breeder will not be able to ask the same money for the pups and therefore may not be able to cover their costs. With a breed like the Rottie it is important that people should be able to know the background of the dogs they are buying pups from as the temperament is paramount.
Not necessarily, this person could have had the dog hip and elbow scored anyway. But I ask again why would you want to put him out to stud?
There are far to many Rottweilers out there with terrible medical conditions mainly because Fred who lives down the road fancies to put his dog out to stud with Freda's dog up the road (hyperthetical). With no consideration for the whether the two dogs will compliment each other, what medical problems could occur because the dogs arn't hip or elbow scored. Not to mention the fact that putting him out to stud could change his temperment. I think its far better left to those that know what they are doing i.e. good breeders who's dogs are KC registered and are hip and elbow scored etc......... I'm not getting at you by making these comments it is just that I have seen so many of our wonderful breed with terrible medical conditions.

lucytia - the dog needs to be KC registered to be hip scored.
Any dog can have a hip x-ray, but to be scored by the BVA the dog must be KC registered. :)
Oh right, I see the difference now.
