hello all,please help! My sister has a 2 year old st bernard and every time she goes into his pen to feed, take him for a walk or just for a bit of play he keeps trying to mount her!why is he doing this?(apart from the obvious)and how can she encourage him to stop doing this? Thank you for any help offered! ube

Guess he is pleased to see her, how long is he left alone and does he have anything to entertain him when he is in his pen. Does he do it when he is taken into the house or is it just when he is in his pen.

hi jackie,he has alot of toys,he also has a play mate (a great dane)yes he does try it when hes in the house.the only time he does not is when hes in the 4x4,hes never left alone for more than 2 hours cos she takes him every where! ube

Dogs have usualy grown out of this sort of thing by the time they are 2 but this is a late maturing breed. If there is a bitch in season around it could be that or it could be a domanance problem. Could just be that he does not get enough human company. Think perhaps your sister should ask a trainer to come and look at the situation and make suggestions as how to stop it, because that is the only thing I am sure about, it will have to stop, he is far to big and will cause someone injury.
I really think this is domination! Your sister needs to stop this behaviour asap. What happens when she sternly tells him off when he attempts to do it???
