In what way was it no good. Those of us who do show buy one or both of the dog papers, dog World & Our Dogs, adverts for all the show appear in them each week.

The papers only have adverts when the schedules are ready and the show season is not under way yet. There will be Champ shows at Leeds, Doncaster and the Driffield show on the racecourse at Doncaster and there will be loads of open shows held in all sorts of areas of Yorkshire, Derby, Notts and Lincolnshire. If you really need to know now there are diaries that list most shows, Starprint who's site is here list shows and show secretaries and you could always buy one of them if you want to know now

Have you joined a ringcraft or training club.  This is one of the best places to obtain details of shows.  Also if you contact the Kennel Club and possibly subscribe to the Kennel Gazette they list up and coming shows for a few months.  Once you have started showing you will find that those shows you have entered will usually send you schedules for their future shows.  You can also pick schedules up at shows .... look by the door or on the secretaries table.

My ringcraft is in Bradford, not a million miles away and we train on Sunday evenings, you would be welcome and we do have people who travel quite long distances.  We concentrate on TRAINING not sitting ringside for most of the evening, you can have as much training as you want.

A friendly word though, please don't try to run before you walk, start lowly and build slowly, Companion Shows (formerley Exemption Shows) are great fun, cost little to enter and give you valuable experience.  Next up are Limit and Open Shows, bit more serious but still fun.  Championship Shows are where the real competition is and where people who really mean to get to the top and who have the best of the best will be found.  Sadly this wonderful hobby of ours is not all fair play and you come accross much backbiting and bitchiness when the judge does not put up what the handler want.  I always my trainees that this is a game we play, it is nice to win but taking part is the best bit.  At the end of the day you must remember that if the judge likes your dogs and you win ... great but on the other hand if he doesn't, well then you have asked for an opinion and you don't have to enter again under that judge.

Have fun .... Good Luck
