Evening,

I got my staffy puppy about 8 weeks ago he is now 16 weeks, he came with 5 generation papers but isnt KC reg, were unsure if the sire was KC the mother definately was, going through the generations there are a number of show winners on the sires side, is it possible that the somewhere in the breed a generation missed KC reg say once on the sire side would you then be able to reg the dog as KC ?

Regards

Graham,

You cannot register the dog with the KC unless the dam and sire are registered.

It's possible someone would choose not to register with the KC, but most ethical people breeding purebred dogs do register, assuming it's a breed recognised by the KC.

Personally I would not trust papers for an unregistered dog that look too good to be true, eg, champions throughout the pedigree.

hiya

the only way to get registered is going back and registering the missing dog's if they were kc stock it would cost about 50 pound per dog so lets say you dog's dad was not registered but his parents were then you could pay his breeders to register your dog's dad then with him registered the owner of the bitch could then register the litter or even just your dog

so that would cost around a 100 but that is only if there from registered dog's remember it could be there not registered because either dog was to old or too young or in the worst case from a stolen dog

at the end of the day if you brought your dog as a pet then there is really no need for it to be registered you only need them for breeding or showing really

it would be nice to know where the dog came from in interest but it won't make it a bad dog not knowing

all the best

Hi UKBULL,

Well that answers a lot thank you, im going to find out if the sire was KC  if not im not really that bothered he is a great example of a staffy in my eyes (but im biased) and he was bought as a pet and a family member if we were to get into showing or breedign at a later date it may be worth paying the registration if the sire isnt kc  but will wait till he is fully developed.

>>>it may be worth paying the registration if the sire isnt kc  but will wait till he is fully developed. <<<

You can't pay the registration and get him KC registered.. if the Sire is not KC registered. If that is the case you the sire is not you are stuck end of story really.

Both parents must be KC registered and the breeder registers them and provides the purchaser with the document.

If the sire's parents were KC registered he should be able to be registered (unless there were endorsements on either registration, the bitch wasn't too old/young etc etc), but his breeder would still be the one who needs to apply. Are you in contact with his breeder? (Sorry if you've already said that you are.)

Hi again,

I see where you are coming from , just when you said " you would register it", I thought best to point out as it is one of the frequent questions on the board " How to register my puppy".

Well good luck in your search and effort , one good thing hopefully that will come from the post is again reinteration again of how important it is to get all this sorted before buying the puppy. No offense ment but as others and I have said it is not a straight forward thing.

It will be easy if you have the pedigree names of the dogs to contact the KC and ask but I think it may be a bit more trying even if it is possible to get the puppys fathers breeder to register the father, then the puppys fathers would need to sign the stud form then the litter would need to be registered whether one puppy or them all. Not a straight forward thing.

What I will say that it is very uncommon for good breeders to use unregistered stud dogs, a dog is generally not registered for a reason whether because the breeder didn't want the dog to be used at stud and it was sold for pet purpose only or more common, that the dog could not be registered anyway.

Sorry to sound so negative but best to be honest with you.

Have you asked the breeder why the puppies were not registered anyway? why if the stud dog is not KC reg they used it?    At the end of the day one the sale has been completed there is limited choice of actions.

Good luck anyway and hope the puppy is fine
