Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Cage size

Hiya
Can anyone tell me the approx size of champ show benches. I'm looking to buy a new cage to take with me as my wee bitch gets quite nervous on the bench and growls at bigger dogs as they are passing by. I've never left her on the bench on her own and can't understand where this has come from. She has had plenty of socialisation and meets other dogs on a regular basis. Its just at shows she does this. It's driving me barmy. I thought the cage may help as if she is ever frightened at home the first place she heads for is her cage she sleeps in at night.

Thanks for any help

Hi

It will depend on the breed of the dog.
Bannerdown Benching - who do most, if not all of the champ shows vary from 50 cm - 90 cm wide x 35" deep  ( I know cm. x in. :D )

Large breed is:-  70 cm x 35"        Small :-      50cm x 35"
                  i.e. 27.55" x 35"                      19.68" x 35"

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for your help Eve. My head is so far up my backside at the mo ! lol (waiting for puppies in the next week). Yeah she is a large breed so the dimensions you sent have been helpful.

P.s Don't suppose you know of any tricks to get her to stay on the bench on her own without howling the place down do you?

No problem, I needed the sizes to see if mine would fit ;)
What breed do you have & are you going to Manchester ?
- By Alli [gb] Date 09.01.04 15:48 UTC
My bloke is taking the pup (she is 10 months old) to Manchester as I'll hopefully be looking after my other girl and any followers that decide to appear lol. I have two setters both different breeds tho. The girl that is going to the show is a Gordon Setter.
What breed do you have?

Good Luck for the show and with the puppies - you must let us know how it goes ;)

I remember my first time in the ring, I was in a terrible state, just try to keep calm and you'll be fine. I say eek every time my bloke asks me to take Maddie in the ring she can be such a nightmare lol. Good luck and most of all have a great day out and enjoy yourself. Have you far to travel to get to the showground?

We are about six hours away so are travelling down the day before to be there bright and early :) I don't take it too seriously but do enjoy the day.
When are your pupies due, is it your first litter?

I just looked at your profile type thing lol. I'm in Ayrshire,  my bloke is planning on leaving early hours of the morning then coming home later the same day, had I been going we would have stayed overnight I'm not the best in the car and need time to recover after the journey. Puppies are due Friday, this is my first litter in this breed. I lived on a farm for 10 years and bred and trained working Border Collies (slightly different from big soft setters) lol. How many dogs have you got?

I rang up Bannerdown benching to find out standard sizes for huskies.  If anyone is interested it is

width from partition to partition: 60cm min
height of partition: 31" min
depth of partition: 35" min

Again a mix of imperial and metric.  Hope this if help to anyone!

Hi eve

Sorry I haven't been online very much. Been very busy with kids and grooming a mad Gordon that'll not sit still. lol.  As for the puppy front, my wee girl produced in the early hours of Sat Night past one big healthy bitch puppy. I was pretty certain she was not going to have many as she was never huge. So I had to spend Sat thru the day calling all the people who had booked puppies and tell them I had none. How bad did I feel. To make matters worse I did a comedy strip type of fall and broke my right arm. It's taken me almost 15 mins to type this left handed :( lol never mind good excuse to have my bloke do some house work eh! ;) He took the pup to Manchester and came home with a sad face as she didn't do so well. Not on the farm anymore I moved away from it two years ago to start again lol. Congratulations on your wins with your boy, hope you have many more to come.  Whats your next show?

Hear from you soon

Poor you with the broken arm :(  it was sooo slippy on Saturday
Its disappointing for the people who had booked puppies but the main thing is that your puppy (and mum) is strong and healthy - I expect you will be keeping her ;)
How could you have coped with more and a broken arm  Save your energy for the puppy and let 'him indoors' do the chores LOL Sorry you didn't have good news at Manchester it was a l-o-n-g trek. Other than a few local Open Shows, at the Magnum,  my next will be SKC
Take care,  eve
