are there any weimaraner breeders that lurk on this board?....if so they will know that weims have a such a problem with vaccines and I was wondering what your protocol is for vaccinating.
I have talked to my co-breeder and I just don't know. I have considered seperating all vaccines out, but she wants me to do a combination vaccine. I can't find anything specific on line and was hoping someone else had another opinion.
Thanks in advance!

I have just homed a litter and kept a Weim pup and all 6 pups have had the combination jabs (mother included) and everyone has been fine.  I know Weims have a real problem with reactions, but none of them took even a slight one.

Hiya
Contact me at home if you like.
I have seen two cases of Weimaraner vaccine reactions in my time. One was high temperature and got over it in two days, although had to go on a drip.
The other I did not breed but it had a massive reaction then it broke down its immune system and now has an auto-immune disease, which has been confirmed as the vaccine reaction.

You can treat with homeopathic nosodes available from www.ainsworths.com You can also speak to the pharmasist on and get his advice.

I do have my pups vaccinated how ever am very careful not to over vaccinate. I know so many people with different breeds that have all had reactions.
Min pins, Sky Terriers, all sorts.  I know a lot of people wont vaccinate a Weimaraner now. So the choice is yours.
My vet told me that a stud done in Israel around 2 years ago suggest that Weimaraners can be given a small doseage of asprin (from vets) and this give over two weeks before vaccination can help stop any reaction.
Ask you vet.
Also some vaccines have been noted to give more of a reaction than others. Which is kinda wierd as they should all be the same.
Anyway good luck and let me know how you get on.

My two have the combined vaccinations and apart from getting a lump on the vaccination site (massing straight after helps with this) they have had no reactions (touch wood).
Our litter of pups born 2 years ago all had the jabs and continue to do so without problems.

A recent article in the Veterinary Record looked at immune system disease in young weimaraners in the uk. Many of these cases developed within a few days/weeks of vaccination. Symptoms ranged from lameness, diarrhoea, high temperature, skin conditions, meningitis. Blood samples showed significantly lower immunoglobulin levels. Most dogs responded to anti-inflammatory (usually steroids) and antibiotic therapy. Some had recurring problems and a few died or were euthanased. The exact cause is unknown but a hereditary predisposition is suspected. It has to be stressed that the number of reactions compared to the number of weim pups vaccinated is low.
I vaccinated my weim at 9 and 12 weeks as I feel the risk of parvo etc is greater than the risk of vaccine reaction. If I had known of reactions in her close familly I may have delayed vaccination. I give her boosters every other year, but may get titres done before her next one is due.

Thank you for all your responses....and altho my co-breeder would like us to do combination vaccines, I have spoken to my veterinarian who is a very good friend of mine as well and we have decided to split up the vaccines and do them all seperate.
Thanks again

Hello Braxy

Do you know much about the article that was published on Weimaraner
reaction ? I am always gleaning information on the breed and if you can
tell me where I could find this article that would be great.
