Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Started Ringcraft Classes!!

I am on such a high still and i have only done 1 class lol. Missy was really good and behaved herself very well, even though she was a bit vocal at the beginning.
One thing i will say though, and i am saying this because i see there has been alot of questions recently about getting into showing, when i was lining up behind the other dogs for us to do our stack and walk up and down, missy was trying to say hello to the other dogs. I at first thought how sweet she wants to make friends and was pleased that she was not nervous as this was the first time she had been in such a close enviroment with so many dogs, but the most of the owners gave me a look that i immediatly understood and that was that they did not approve. I felt a little confused and hurt and thought how rude it is our first night and she is only a puppy, and it was only after i had had a couple of goes that i realised that in fact they were not being rude but were treating the class as though they were in the show ring and of course your dogs are supposed to stand still quietly and wait there turn. I felt a bit silly then and i just thought it worth a mention as i know my brain is a bit slow and i would not want anyone else to be put off if this is what happened to them. Ringcraft is a total buzz, so i dread to imagine what i will be like when i do get show :). One thing i would like to know is that i have been advised to find out what my breed are shown with i.e collar and lead, as i should take along walking lead and showing/working lead. I think i am right in saying it is a choker and i would of thought a plain leather lead but i was wondering if anyone could confirm this for me and as to what sort of length lead i need, also if they could recommend any good web sites that sell them. I have bullmastiffs just in case anyone does not know and thank-you to all those who replied on my previous post, Emma.

Emma for a pup we use half checks not full checks, even on adult male Bullmastiffs i only use half checks, the lead can be leather or web not so long that it gets in the way but not short short.

Hi Corso Girl,, thank-you very much for the information, the only reason i thought they were shown in full choker is because i have read and re-read Bill Walkey's The Bulmastiff Manual and in there he is showing a bullmastiff in full choker. I am glad however that half checks are used as i have no problem with missy as she is on a normal soft webbed collar presently. The only thing i am still a little confused over is that i have a normal crufts webbed lead that is not to short and not to long, but the trainers said it was to thick in width for showing. I would say it is a standard size but is there a correct width then and should i get a thin lead, also i am trying to get to some show's to see bullmastiffs in the ring but the open show's i have picked up information on do not have any bullie classes listed although there is a working group? Is this normal too? Thank-you and sorry to be a pain, Emma.
