I have a three year old male bulldog.  I am interested in letting him out for stud but am unsure how to go about it.  I have advertised in the local papers but to no avail.  Does anyone have any suggestions or, better still, is anyone interested?

As the vast % of breeders in the breed are show people the best way is to show him with some success. He is now getting a bit old to be used for the first time. Have you spoken to his breeder as they may be able to send people who want to use their lines to you, they would wish to see him first I expect and they will want to know he is of sufficient quality to be worthy of using. Bulldog breeding is a difficult matter and no one will use an unknown or a less that good dog.

I agree with what Jackie has said and the other thing is you really do need to know the breed very well when it comes to breeding/or stud work, a female bulldog can and in most cases will attack the male and hurt it, you have to be able to control both with care as some females get very worked up you cant just let them get on with it.you have to have the owner of the dog and the owner of the bitch and you both have to know what to do.And if you advertise in papers all you will get are  people with     other breeds wanting to cross.
