My girl is now 56 days pregnant(i think)She was mated to a young male,3 times.Her teats are enlarged and her mammary glands are swolen but her tummy is not really enlarged.Is my girl pregnant or not,how can i tell?Please help Retha.

I guess you just wait & see now.

You could have her scanned, but you'd have been better off getting that done at 28 / 30 days post mating.

You could have an x-ray, but there isn't much point & I would never have an x-ray done just to confirm pregnancy.

Just prepare for the whelping & the litter & watch her over the next week. Some bitches will hide the pups well & not look pregnant, or she could just have 1 or 2 pups.

Or she could be having a phantom

I myself would have an x-ray done. She may be pregnant and only have 1 and when that is the case they occasionally don't go into whelp on their own and need to have a C-Section. So I would check it out....better to be safe than sorry.

I agree about there being a single pup & the bitch not going into established labour on her own - but an x-ray -- not for me (I'd be happy to get an ultrasound though)

Retha, I had my bitch scanned today as I was not sure and she definately is.  How did you do?

(Please note the "you" in this post is a generic one and not aimed at anyone in particular - I have been tempted to send an email like this for months but cannot resist any longer)

What do these "Is My Bitch Pregnant" posts really want us to say.  Yes your bitch is pregnant, we have super-vision and can see her with the pups moving around inside?

The only people that can see the bitch are the people with her so they are the best ones to tell.

If she is pregnant then fine, you will probably get pups at the end of 9 weeks, if she isn't then no amount of scanning, x-rays etc will make her pregnant so unless there is a problem they are a waste of time, money and can cause unnecessary stress on the bitch.

If a bitch is obviously having problems or goes three days over her due time and you think she is definitly pregnant then fine, take her to the vet then, until that time you will just have to be patient.
