On the results of a blood test. It says my dog is carbohydrate positive. I will get back to the vet but can anyone tell me what this means and what food should be avoided.

Was this an allergy test?  This is going to be hard to avoid, cause we all need carbohydrates to function properly.

Dogs do not actually need carbohydrates per se.  Carbohydrates provide energy. Dogs are perfectly designed to get their energy needs through fats.  I feed absolutely no carbs per se to my dog ie no grains at all and not only do they manage to function but have plenty of energy to compete in schutzhund, working trials, agility and showing!

If your dog had been allergy tested it should indicate precisely what protein it is allergic to and if it is an instant and/or delayed sensitivity eg indicate if it is allergic to wheat, maize, oats, rice etc.

I am interested to know test was done on your dog precisely and what it mean myself; at the moment I can only think that he may be sensitive to mulitple grains (not unusual) or possibly so sensitive to carbs that blood sugar levels rise alarmingly as it did on one of my dogs giving it a "sugar high"!

Spot on! I dont feed carbs either, well not added to his kibble at anyrate. When I am training and conditionng them I feed extra protien and fats, never carbs, they actually slow down the digestion of the valuable fats and protiens.
