Hi I am new to this forum and my fiance and I are getting a pup on sunday.
We think it is a cross border terrier but not sure what with. It is about 14 weeks old and the lady that had it got it from the pound 4 weeks ago and is pregnant and cant look after it.
It is a friendly wee thing and seemed happy when they brought it to our house but it needs socialised with other dogs.
They have not had it vaccinated yet or wormed and it is a bit thin. Does anyone have any advice for us on what to feed it etc?
It sounds like you're taking on a bit of a handful. I would suggest a trip to the Vets asap, then as soon as you can (injections, worming etc permitting) enrole your new addition in a puppy class, to allow it to socialise in a (hopefully) controlled enviroment.
I'm sure someone with more exerience will be along later.
Good Luck

Hi - First thing's first..Now you have decided on this puppy get it registered with a vet and take it along asap! Whilst there you can discuss its weight, worming and any other concerns that you may have. You will need to sign up to some puppy socialisation and or obedience classes, your vet should also be able to help with this. You dont really want to upset pup's digestion right now - sounds like its been through alot for such a young age so find out what its current owner is feeding and feed the same...If it is an undesirable diet (tinned meat for instance?) - then any change should be done gradually, say over five days, by adding small amounts of the new food and reducing the old until you have a total change over, But as I mentioned vet is very much your first stop. By the way, if it hasn't been vaccinated it should only interact with dog's that you know have been - it is a good idea to take pup out for a carry just to get him used to sights and sounds this is a very crucial stage for pup and you should approach socialisation sensibly and correctly. Hope this helps for time being as I'm sure you will have many more questions in the future :) - Then of course there is toilet training.......

Thanks for your advice :-)
I am going to phone the vets this week to try and get an appointment for Monday and I went to puppy classes with my mum when her dog was a pup so i know what to expect which is good. To be honest the dog is quite thin and i dont think they were feeding it very well so hopefully we can get that sorted out but i will ask the vet what he thinks. Its hard to tell what she is a cross with as she has small paws but quite long legs. She is a light sandy colour.
How soon after vaccinations can the dog get out (apart from the back garden)?
Also I need help with names as the people have named her but we dont like the name and want to change it.
