My friend has a 2yr old springer bitch, spayed, I am just wondering if anyone has any ideas. We thought that she had had a petit mat and when giving vet syptoms she agreed.
Now reading my vet book I was wondering if it could be something else.
On the two occasions this is what happened. She was getting off the settee when she suddenly just stood there trembled/swayed and had rapid eye movement, it only lasted a little while and then she walked off without any problems. We don't know obviously if it has occured at any other time, on one occasion she was sick a couple of hours before, only froth.
In my vet book both Ataxia and Wobbler Syndrome has similar symptoms.
Can anyone give me and pointers on this please
Ataxia is a symptom rather than a condition - it is associated with things like Cerebral Palsy, Parkinsons etc. - it is, simply, loss of full control of bodily movements.
Wobblers is a problem with the dog's neck and generally affects Great Danes and Dobermanns. To start with this generally affects the back legs and one of the symptoms is grazing the tops/fronts of the back feet when walking. It is painfull.
From your description Wobblers/CS sounds very unlikely although if she is having fits than ataxia may be one of the symptoms.

I agree with Kerioak this does not have the symptons of Wobblers, I have done a lot of research into this condition especially as my horse has it. Yes horses can suffer with Wobblers as well as dogs. It is a fusion and calcification of the vertibrae with causes the spinal cord to be squashed therefore stopping messages getting through to the legs causing a swaying gait.
