I recently posted a message asking for advice as I have never had a bitch who hasn't been spayed so didn't know what to expect when they go into season. My questions on the bleeding got answered but I am getting really worried now, she seems depressed and just sleeps all the time.
I understand that shes going through a hard time ( I do) she isn't getting her lovely long walks, has swollen quite considerably, shes been bleeding for 16 days now, (just starting to clean herself)
Is this normal behaviour? I feel so sorry for her. Is there anything I can do to lift her spirits? Am I right in thinking I shouldn't walk her for a further 7 days when she is finished bleeding just incase?
I know people might think I should have researched all this before I got her but she was given to me as a friend couldn't cope with her, thank god for this site, it has answered a lot of my questions.

You may find that giving your dog raspberry leaf tablets (avialable from Dorwest) from Day 1 of her season for 12 weeks can help as can evening primrose oil; both can help prevent/reduce the symptoms of phantoms etc.
This is her 1st and last season, I am getting her spayed in a couple of months.

Think very often the first season is different to all the rest the bitch may have difficulties and yes the do get PMT (pre) and PMT (post) well some do anyway. She only has another week to go and next time she should be OK.
What a shame. PMT at 8 months old. Shes so miserable, she's going to have the longest walk ever when shes back to normal.
