Hi all, hope you can help. I am now the proud owner of a Great Dane. He is now 14 weeks old and weighs in at 17kg. I am currently feeding him on Arden Grange Classic Junior 130g four times a day. I have searched the web and spoken to a number of people. Could somebody please give me an idea as too whether I am feeding him enough or too much!! He seems to be remaining "ribby" but there does not seem to be a definitive guide to feeding in the first year anywhere, I am really worried that I am over / or under feeding him. Please help!!

Hi - if you click on my name you can either go to my site and email me from there, or you can send a private message via this site :)
I would recommend you stay on your breeders diet initially - if they have been helpful and provided a diet sheet that is - but it is dependent on how good your breeder is :)

All owners of KC registered dogs
must provide puppy purchasers with written details of all dietary requirements (Code of Ethics #8), so follow that for the first week or so before introducing any changes.
:)
I agree with ChloeH. Do stay with your breeders puppy diet and if you have concerns then ring them up. I spent a lot of time doing my diet sheet and it totally surprised me when owners haven't read passed the first page. There are times when things have to be changed as each puppy is different.

Hi,
My dane puppy had a couple of diet based problems initially but with some great advise from a couple of forum members and talking to her breeder she's a healthy handfull again :D :D :D
I was a little concerned about her being too ribby but after hours of looking at photo's I think it's quite normal when they are growing upwards at such a rate :) Think I'll still get her weighed next time we're at the petshop then I can bug the other dane owners with more 'is this ok' questions ;)
lol - it's a good job they're friendly :D
Go to www.greatdanelady.com the site owner is an experienced dane breeder + she is a nutritionalist,if you e-mail her she will be able to answer all of your questions.
