I am interested in showing my rottweiler but I've never done this before! She's 15months old and absolutely georgeous- everyone at work thinks so too and I work as a 'veterinary nurse'! She was originally bought as a very nice pet rather than for showing, she does actually have an excellent breeding history as far as showing's concerned. If she doesn't get placed then fair enough- no loss to me, -I've still got one hell of a nice bitch. I've tried various websites but nothing seems to tell me what I really need to know.

Does anyone have any links to sites or information such as dates, advice etc-HELP!

if you bought your bitch as a pet i think id contact your breeder first and ask her if shed look at the dog and tell you wether its good enough to be shown, providing the breeder showed hers, if not id find someone who shows that can have a look at her for you and give you some idea as to wether she fits the standard well, no disrespect but a lot of people think that when veiwing a rott ,bigger is always better, theres so much more that needs to be correct ,
or have you pictures of her that you could let someone see to give you an idea, is her mouth correct-scissor bite, has she a temperament that would allow strangers to look in her mouth and handle her all over, as the judge would be hands on, theres an awful lot you need to know before you start off showing,

Dizzy's coments are vallid if you wish to show and win, but if you would just like to have a go and see if you like it, then I would suggest that you take her (and you) to ringcraft classes. Has your vet practice got any notices up for ringcraft or dogtraining, even if the dogtraining does not do ringcraft they should be able to help you find a suitable class, if not the Kennel Club can. A lot of people who are having success now in the show ring started out with a 'pet' and got the bug, so be warned showing can lead to an increase in the number of dogs you own. You find out about dog show etc by getting one of the dog papers, Dog World or Our Dogs both have sites. All the best enjoy yourself. Jackie H
Just thought, Rotties are shown in a rather different way to a lot of dogs so if you go to a class where there are no Rotties you will also have to go to some shows to see how other people show there dogs, it a good idea anyway before you take the plung yourself.

Hi Guest
Where abouts in the country are you?
I have rotties and started out with a pet/bitch I "might show".
Well now I go miles for the chance of a bit of ribbon.Rotts are shown with bait, some dogs arent.
You could go to Crufts on Thursday and sit and watch, best way to learn things i think.
I would say go to ringcraft see if you both like the idea of showing, then progress to open shows then if you still enjoy it just go for it girl ( presuming you are female :-) )
Try to get an honest opinion about your dog 1st though, and dont be too disappointed if she isnt show quality, just love her for being yours.

Have you tried any other sites? I'm quite new to this forum therefore I don't have any but I'm sure someone out there knows of more sites where you can get info from? What exactly is it you're looking for names, dates and times of shows and that sort of stuff?

Can anyone help her?
