I was at a show over the Christmas period and i was quite shocked when i saw a lady force feeding a mini dachs. I know these breeds get weighed so i assume it is something to do with that but i thought it was awful putting spoon fulls of mush down the dogs throat. The dog clearly didn't like it and i was surprised that she just did it at the ringside. I thought DOG and owner were supposed to enjoy showing ?

Would be nothing to do with the weight as they have to be under the weight unless it was a standard. It may have been that the dog was taking medication or that it would not eat and the only way was to hand feed it. Agree it is easy to jump to a conclusion but I can see no reason why spoon feeding a Dachshund at a show had anything to do with showing.

Thanks for the reply Jackie. I have been wondering about it since. It was just the amount that she fed the dog and feeding it like that before going in the ring was strange.

Who know why, some people do have some strange things that must be done before going into the ring, may be it contained some sort of product that was suposed to calm/liven the dog in the ring. Was it a puppy?

No, it was an adult dog.

No idea, but don't think it would be anything to do with the showing, well can't think what but some people will swear by some sort of herbal potion or other and may be.......who knows.
