our boy has tied twice now with the visiting female.the first time was wednesday and again today.on wednesday she paraded a bit afterwards but today she went loopy.she kept trying to bite my husband and myself,so we have put her in the kennel for a little while to calm down and be by herself,my boy is happy just to sleep now after giving her a kiss, has anyone else had an experience like this?
many thanks
mel :)

It's possible she was in discomfort. Perhaps she's 'going over'? As you've had two good ties I would send her home today. They don't need to mate any more.

thank you,
she is going home tomorrow anyway so we will keep them seperate now.she is a bit of a hussy and torments zak terribly.the owners live about 4 hours away and had already made plans to collect her tomorrow,
when would you normally recommend signing the green slip as some say once you know she is in whelp, others say at the time of mating?

My terms are always, except in the case of a maiden dog, that the Stud Fee is paid and green forms signed and handed over at time of mating.

The bitch owners is paying for your dogs services which do not come with a guarantee of full term puppies.  So many things can go wrong between mating and whelping, which have nothing to do with your boys fertility.

Although I do always offer a free return at the bitche's next season

I have never had any bitches try to bite me afterwards but have experienced many going 'silly' charging around, guess they are pleased with themselves D)
As LD says you are paid for the service I always make people pay at first mating unless they are close friends, owing to the fact that I have had a man not pay me and then sold the pups without papers, not everyone cares about paperwork so beware.
If you get a bitch on the correct day they only realy need one mating but most of us 'prefer' two but mate day one, leave a day in between as sperm stays alive before you do the second.
Debbie.

I know this will sound weird, but it has always been thought by many dog breeders that if a bitch does this, it is because she is convinced she has "taken" so thinks she is in whelp. She will still tease a dog but won't stand again and will snap at anyone or any dog that tries to make her.

thank you all for your replies,
i thought maybe she felt she knew she had taken, with this tie,as i know that some women also say to know when they catch on.Hopefully this will be the case,as it was my boy's first time,he is so tired poor baby...it must be hard work :D
mel :)
p.s i know that scan's and blood tests can be used to determine whether or not a bitch is in whelp, but is there anything like a human urine test?(providing you could collect it)
- By Cinajella [us] Date 02.01.04 21:44 UTC
not really...I know they did some experimenting at the clinic I work for to see if the urine strips would pick it up and give an acurate positive, but they did not.
Unfortunately the only thing is blood test or ultrasound 25 days post breeding.
Sorry but I hope that helps.

well we have had confirmation that zak is going to be a daddy, his lady friend sent an email to let him know that she had been to the vets, the vet can see at least 4 pups(not advertising all pups are spoken for),although she has a wide ribcage so possibly a few more lurking in there.im so proud of my little man on his first go
mel and zak :)
