Topic Dog Boards / Health / Another false pregnancy?
- By Alli [gb] Date 01.01.04 23:19 UTC
Hi there, my name is Ali. I am new to these boards. Whilst looking for information on false pregnacies I came across this forum.  My wee girlie has had two false pregnancies without matings her last two seasons the only symptoms being her glands filling with milk approx 60 days after her season. On this season she has been to the stud dog and we had a good 15 min tie, so I am hoping she has taken. This is day 49 and I'm getting kinda nervous that she is not going to have any puppies. However she has had all the right symptoms, such as morning sickness, clear discharge, milk glands filling up and she is still quite swollen, she wants to spend every moment she can sitting on or near me, however every book I have read or any person I have spoken too says I should be seeing movement and she should be getting really fat, but all that seems to be happening is that she has put on a huge amount of weight around her ribs making her look very barrel chested. I have increased her food as the vet advised and wait with baited breath to see what happens in the next fortnight. I was going to get her scanned but my vet doesn't have a scanner so I geuss I'll just wait and see. The vet says that she wouldn't hide many pups under her ribs so maybe she is just having one or two. If anyone out there has some advice I'll be very gratefull to read it.
Many thanks.

hi Alli & welcome to Champdogs.
your girl still has 2 weeks to go, therefore it's not always common to see movement at this stage.
" & she should be getting really fat" - you don't want her to put excess weight on as this will make her overweight & unfit for the birth, you need to increase her food slightly during the last couple of weeks, but don't overfeed her. What you ideally want if she's in whelp is for her body shape to change as her abdomen gets larger, which sounds like what is happening.
As you didn't get her scanned, I guess you'll have to wait & see, but from experience - all bitches carry differently. I have a FCR that was 8 weeks in whelp & if you saw her you'd have said she's missed or she's only got 1 pup in there, a week later she had 10 healthy big strong pups, she just hid them well.
Bit like humans, some people look good & slim with a neat bump - others get very big!
Good luck with her.

Thankyou for the quick reply to my post. This breeding dogs isn't for the faint hearted.I thought it was bad having kids of my own but phew it was nothing compared to this lol. I'll wait and see what the next two weeks bring and keep you updated.

It certainly is a worrying time.
Keep her excercise up (within reason) to keep her nice & fit. & all being well if she's in whelp, you will hopefully have an easy birth.
Look forward to hearing news in a week or 2.  :)

I there! I just went through this My Coco had a pregnancy test and it came out positive.  At 50 days I still had not felt any movement were it had me very concerned.  We did a x-ray at 56 days.  Sure be it they are there, but I still don't feeel anything.  57 days there moving like crazy one day sure made a big difference.  58 days she whelp healthy little boys and one girl and this was on this New Years Eve.

Be patient I know how it feel and I think I more grey hair from worring

Good Luck!

Thanks for answering my post Lureina, and congratulations on your newest arrivals. Hope Mother and babies are all doing well. You said there was one girl born, how many boys did she have? Thought I'd just post a quick update on the my wee girl.  I am pretty certain I saw some movement earlier on today or it could just be wishful thinking. I keep telling myself that it's only a fortnight to wait. I am so nervous as if anything happens to my wee girlie I'll be really upset and will never forgive myself for doing this to her. My poor bloke is sick of hearing Yes shes pregnant or No I don't think she is lol. Never mind if I can't have a good old moan at him who can I moan at. lol

Thanks again

Ali

I was the same way and you had to see me at the time of the delivery.  I called my vet in the middle of the first pup coming out.  He was laughing at me.  She had total of six babies.  I feel so bad for her she looks like she's got puppy blues.   Happy to hear that you felt some movement.  Let me know hoe things go.
