my 4 month old pup has developed a good routine of peeing and poo'ing on training pads... anyway this week has been complete relapse.. he has been weeing on the sofa... pooing in completely new areas and generally disorientated. He has recently spent the evening being looked after with another older dog around.. this dog immediately peed on my puppy's bed and then trotted off.... when we got home puppy peed on HIS OWN BED???? Its all going wrong right now... can anyone help??

:rolleyes: I wish there was a magic cure for this but I've a feeling it's just going to be back to basics with the house training. My own pup has taken a backwards step this week but I think it's due to the cold weather as she just sits against my legs crying til we go in - where she instantly pees on the floor :(

Hopefully there will be a more experienced puppy owner along soon, as Dizzy is my first puppy in a long time :)

Its been Christmas and all routine has been upset - everything changes at this time of the year, more visitors, more excitement, more people at home, different times going out, different mealtimes - the list goes on and on. Just revert to basics and try and get back to the old routine as soon as possible.

Yep, it's back to basics.  I would get rid of the puppy pads and just put him outside when he needs to go. The trouble with puppy pads or newspaper is, you are actually telling him it is ok to go indoors, this can confuse the pup.

Put him outside Immediately he wakes up, after every meal and every play session.  Stay out there with him and when he wees give a special word for it 'have a wee' for intance, and something different for a poo.  Eventually you will be able to send him out with those commands.

If he continues going around the house then restrict his movements, don't let him in the lounge or on the sofa until he is housetrained.

It is down to your diligence to how quickly he learns.
