I am about to hand strip my 9month old cocker spaniel, someone has mentioned a device that helps called ( I think a coat king) has anyone heard of this, and what size and where can I obtain one from.

Hi Guest

I have never used a coat king but I think I am right in saying that they actually cut the coat as you use them rather than pulling it from the root. Therefore they don't have the same effect as hand stripping.

Alex is right - the Coat King is great for keeping pet Cockers tidy but they do cut the coat so should not be used for show Cockers as they do not "strip" the coat in the traditional sense. Coat Kings can be purchased from quite a few grooming supplies companies eg Diamond Edge (http://www.diamondedgeltd.com/acatalog/index.html) The Extra-Fine Coat King with either 20 or 26 blades is normally recommended for Cocker Spaniels.
