Pepper has been vomiting up bile off and on now for a few weeks. I haven't been too worried as she eats her food and has been full of energy. This morning after I got up, I found two puddles. I had bought some James Wellbeloved at East of England show and tried it out for a few days. I thought that might have something to do with it, so I switched back to her old food. She hasn't been wormed for a while. Is it possibly worms? She also wretches every once in a while without vomiting. HELP! :(

Is it small amounts mostly in themorning. it could be indigestion, and the change of food may have started it! Try feeding her two meals rather than one.

Re the puddles. She could be coming into season, and the hormones are affecting her ability to hold on, or causing her to scent mark!

It seems to be common for dogs to bring up bile first thing in the morning, I have alway assumed it was because the stomach is empty and bile collects and the dog just gets rid. They are usual happy enough and I usualy offer a couple of dog biscuits which seems to work. Ja:)kie

She is finishing her season now. No longer spotting and the swelling has gone way down. :)
I guess my worry was that she did it from time to time, and now it is more frequent. Could the heat be bothering her too?
I have been feeding her 1x daily, but will break the amount into 2x daily. Thanks! I hate to run to the vet with every little stubbed toe nail!

Give her a little live Yogurt, or one of these probiotic cultures, should help with the balance of gut flora!

Hi, my Bonnie had similar thing few yrs ago, vomiting small amount bile same time each afternoon. Spoke to vet & put her on ch & rice for few days, anyway this went on a couple of wks. Finally took her for endoscopy & she had to be oprated on. Turned out swallowed one of those individual butter/ jam things & it embedded in her tum & it was ulcerated all round.

chloe, my boxer sometimes vomits in the morning, at first i was worried and we did bloods, xrays diet trials etc etc showed nothing, thought it may be to do with her seasons, now she has had pups i was waiting to see if that helped, but now this morning she has started again, her season is due in aug/sept so I don't think it is that ?? strange though how she will be ill for a day then nothing for months then it happens again ??
so Quinn I know how frustrating it is ! worms are unlikely cause as they usually are present in the vomit, usually worms are passed if they are causing a problem. I think that dry food may be the cause of my girls probs but i am still investigating !????

yeah, i'm really worried about my dog,Mandy, too.  on Christmas day she just started gagging and she couldn't stop. she threw up a little bit outside, but when we let her back in her sides were all bloated and we didn't know what to think cuz she's a pretty healthy dog and has never had any major problems. anyway, we were fortunate enough to see a vet that day and he told us it was a large tumor in her stomach area, so of course i spent much of the day in my room crying. the next morning my dad took Mandy to the vet to get operated on, but the guy couldn't find the lump he had felt the day before.  He said w/e was there definitely isn't there anymore.  but he gave us some canned rice food for her to eat over the next couple of days because she had probably just had an upset stomach, he said.  everything's been ok, and today we were down to the last can so we decided to add just a small handful of her regular dry dog food in w/ the canned food to get her back to that again. but tonight she threw that up and we noticed her stomach was fairly large again. We just don't understand what's wrong...she eats, drinks, goes to the bathroom, and acts normal (until she starts gagging).  We don't know what to do, and we don't want to bug the vet for every little thing....but how can we tell if it's serious or not?

It's possible that she is bloating. Does her tummy sound very gassy and 'sloshy' when this happens? I had one who developed an intolerance to soya, and it would cause her to produce a lot of gas in her stomach. This is a very bad thing to happen, and can result in the death of a dog within hours if the stomach swells so much that it twists upon itself.

I would feed her food well soaked so that it swollen before it enters her stomach, and watch her like a hawk for a few hours after each meal.

I know this is probably not much help but Lucy the fat rot brings up bile if i don't feed her before 8 in the morning. I've always assumed it was because she only gets fed in the morning, her stomach is expecting food at the same time everyday and if it don't get none up comes the bile!

Just a thought.
Do you soak the dry food before feeding her? Some dry food swells up amazingly when moisture is added & she may not be able to cope will the volume of it in her stomach.

Thank you very much for your replies, but my dad decided to take her to the vet today and they did an x-ray and found that she does in fact have a large tumor located in her abdomen.  Now i'm just hoping and praying it's one that can be removed w/o much harm.  Good luck to those other dogs on here that are having problems.
