Hi
I have just resued a 11month old bullmastiff from my husbands cousin. He wasnt really badly treated but she didnt like him and just wanted him gone. Anyway she has given us the dog but wants £400 for his papers. I want to get him chipped (if he hasnt already been) and get him registered in my name ect.
Do i need his papers for this?

Thanks
Debbie N

No, any dog can be chipped, it will be done in your name.

To get his KC registration put into your name, yes, you need the original KC documents. I believe the microchipping company will register the details you give them on their database.

However, unless you have your husband's cousin's signature acknowledging that you are now the owner of the dog, legally the dog is still her property because the KC registration is in her name.

Hope this helps.
