Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / King Charles Cross with Yorkie ????

Hi
We have a King Charles supposed to be crossed with a Yorkie ( Father 100 % K/C ,Mother 3/4 K/C & a 1/4 Yorkie). The trouble is our puppy is now about 14 weeks old and is bigger than a pedigree K/C i saw the other day .With her being crossed with a Yorkie surely she shouldnt grow bigger than a King Charles anyway ????.Sometimes when i look at her i can see the Yorkie but sometimes when i look at her i can see a Springer Spaniel. We didnt get her from a reputable place ,we just wanted a family pet for our Daughter .But i would dearly like to know exactly whats she is crossed with .
Love her to bits but would just like to know if a dog is crossed like 2 small dogs crossed can they grow quite big ,because of the other genes from earlier crossed mating ????.
Pity we cant post pics cos i could post a pic for people to judge .
Thanks in ADVANCE .

As you say, you didn't buy from a reputable breeder, so there is no guarantee that the parents are what you were told. It is probable that the KC or, more likely Cavalier KC in the pedigree were not good examples of the breed & may well have been oversize. ( CKCS should weigh 12-18lbs.). A puppy from 2 small parents can grow to be bigger, but not outstandingly so, it depends on what the grand parents, great grandparents were like etc., how many puppies were in the litter & how well they were reared. Generally speaking a big dog mated to a small dog will produce puppies somewhere between the 2, the next generation being harder to predict. Did you see Mum, was she KC sized?
One of the main reasons for not buying a crossbreed is because you cannot predict what the puppies will turn out like. In your case it obviously doesn't matter, so good luck with your puppy.

That is the main problem with buying a cross breed or mongrel, you have no way of knowing what it is you are getting, even if you see the parents and it is a first cross you still don't know which characteristics of the parents the pup will get and it may well get some from further down the line so if it is a mongrel your guess would be as good as anyone else's, as to what the finished dog will be in looks or temperment.
