I have a wonderful 4 month old puppy who we only brought home just over a week ago. We're only having 1 problem; house training! She'd been kenneled before we got her so I knew she wasn't house trained. We invested in a crate, and thought we'd cracked the whole house breaking thing when I arrived home last night to find a mess (poo) in the crate. Same this morning.

She's never been left for longer than 3 hours at most and never straight after she's been fed, obviously I always take her outside before she goes into the crate and immediately after she comes out. This has been working perfectly until last night (she was left for around 2 hours). I hadn't done anything different from usual, and didn't tell her off at all upon finding the mess. I am terrified that now she's done it twice, the crate will no longer be useful for house training her.

PLEASE HELP, I don't know what to do next. How do you stop a pup from messing it's sleeping area?? Why would she suddenly start doing this when she's been doing so well?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

Liz.

1. Don't panic.  2. Be patient. You've only had her a week, she hasn't had time to settle in yet, never mind become housetrained. It is a bit more difficult to train an older pup, but she will get there in the end. Even 4 mth old pups brought up in the house still have accidents. At this age, she won't "go" on command, you'll have to find out the times when she normally goes - may be immediately after eating, or an hour after, you may have to change the times you feed her etc. There is plenty of information on house training on this forum - try using the search facility & you'll find plenty of info.
Good Luck.

I have got a 5 month old puppy, and the same happened to me a few weeks ago. For no reason at all. Just try to be patient, mine stopped after 5 days and hopefully she is back to being good!

A dog is housebroken actually with age on 5 month. Some do need longer and some do say they are very fast. Every dog in any breed is different.

Don't give up hope.
