Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Moulting Labrador

I have a 10 month old Black Lab who is moulting very bably.  I have had previous Labs mainly in pairs and expect hair but my current Lab only has to sit in one place for a few minutes and the hair is everywhere!  If anyone visits and strokes him it drops out by the handful and I seem to be always hoovering I have never had a dog before that moulted so much.  I have started to brush him every day but someone told me I should add some oil to his dinner which helps the coat he is fed Beta at the moment and i thought that had all the necessary oils etc in.  Could anyone suggest anything??

Sounds like he has a good coat!

Two things spring to mind, the first is that he is a bit late! Most Labradors would be finished their moult well over a month ago I would have thought. The other is his age and is probably linked to the first. At 10 months old his boy clock has possibly not caught up yet. The loosing of the puppy coat would possibly be out of the usual moulting season which has brought this one late. You should find that all will settle by next time.

So saying, assuming that the moult really is excessive then I would be on the look out for something more serious but on the face of it I would not get too concerned at this time.

Regards, John
