Will somebody please put my mind at rest? I bought a pup from a breeder nearly eight weeks ago with the promise of pedigree papers in the post and they havent come yet. The breeder says shes still waiting for them. What do you think?

Hmmmm, tricky.
The Kennel Club is processing papers very quickly nowadays, so I doubt the delay is with them, but it could just be a delay with the Breeder. We had a delay on our last litter as the Sud dog owner had split up from her Husband, but he hadn't signed the dog over, solely into her name, so we then realised he had to be tracked down and his signature added.
Have you asked the breeder? Have you asked the Kennel Club? Are there other things that make you suspicious that your pup won't be registered?

I dont really know enough about breeders to know if there was anything dodgy about the kennel but she is registered on this website.
I havent contacted the Kennel Club yet. Do you think i should?

I'm sure if they are listed via this site that it is just a glitch in their system...but it will be interesting to see, do let us know the final outcome
The Kennel Club could tell you if the registration is being processed, but is held up for any reason, however if you are in contact with the Breeder then ask directly what the hold up is. The first Sibe pup we ever bought took 6 or so months to register, she was shown as a NAF TAF, the breeder was just disorganised!

A few years ago a mate of mine had the same problem we rang the kennel club and they said she hadent aplied for the pups registration so we rang her back she offered to give us our money back but we didnt want to take the pup back. We told her we had rang the kennel club and hey presto we got our pedigree dated 2 days after we rang so just keep on at her or you could ring trading standards and see what they have to say!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK

Ill contact the kennel club on Monday. Thankyou all for replying, i am worried, my puppy is lovely but when youve spent a lot of money you like to think that what youve paid for is genuine, she advertised the litter was from champions!

I know how you feel Ollie, when I bought my cream GSD the breeder said she had applied for the K.C reg, 2 months later, she was still 'waiting' - I phoned the K.C to be told she had not even applied! Luckily I had made her sign an agreement at time of sale saying that the pup would be K.C registered, so I wrote to her threatening legal action, got the form sent to me a month later! Some folk are unbelievable...

I registered a litter in Feb and the papers came back 1 week later. Really shocked as last time it took 3 months and that was because they had sent them to the wrong breeder!
I had a hell of a time chasing them up and then half of them had the wrong colours and none of them had the 'not for export endorsement'.
So I would contatct your breeder and ask if registration has been applied for and then contact the kC.
A friend of mine bought a puppy from the paper and later found out the father had been dead for 5 years. Luckily she got her money back.

Don't be upset you have a lovely puppy, phone your breeder and say 'where are my puppies papers' if they say they are with the Kennel Club then phone them to ask if this is so. If you are not satisfied dont give up, name the breeder and kick up the dust, stamp your feet and kick up hell. JH

If you contact the Kennel Club you need the details of the Bitch as i am having the same problem so i am ringing the Breeder again today to see if he has either got the papers back or to get the details of the bitch.

As a well known military person has been known to shout! “DON’T PANIC" it could be something very simple like the choice of name could have been turned down and the breeder has had to think of some more and re submit the paperwork

I had a horrible experience this past fall getting papers for my male. Since I'm on the otherside of the pond, I had to deal with the AKC. They were not very willing to cooperate, and the breeder wouldn't answer my calls. So, I had to result to some extreme measures (can't mention them sorry). But I did get my papers in the end, and now this breeder is officially on my sh** list! Forever!
Hope you get the papers soon, I sympathize totally!
(Got my male at 7 weeks, my papers at 11 months)
Turns out she had written a bounced check to the AKC and was taking her time in clearing it up!
With my first dog - naive that I was then - it took me over a year to get the registration document from the breeder and my bitch was the only one registered from that litter. I kept ringing her to ask her for it and each time she told me it was with the KC I rang them and asked and when they told me they did not have them I rang her again (and again, and again, and again). These days they have to be registered within 12 months or the cost goes up to £50 per pup if there was a good reason for not registering them in the first place.
I know someone who had his documents back in two days (last week) so the turn-around-time is not exactly excessive at the moment.

HEY GOOD NEWS!
Rang the kennel club today, turns out she registered the pups last Tuesday, so i should have my papers in aweek or so.
Who knows whether it was genuine problems or that she hadnt bothered but she could have let me know.
I understand shes got kids but when youre selling pups for £350 a time you have to fulfil your side of the bargain.
Thanks to everyone whos wrote to me and made queries on my behalf.

I agree Ollie, if you have time to raise a litter you should be able to find time to register them or at least keep you informed as to what is happening. But then again I'm not perfect either. Glad all's well that ends well. now you can relax. Jackie H

Oh Ollie I hope you do, in fact I would make a point of seeking her out, forget your anger and make friends, by all means tell her how upset and worried you have been but then forget it you never know when you may need her help. JH

Im not angry but i was very worried. Im really looking forward to Crufts on Saturday, it will be great to see adult versions of my little pup and learn more about them!

Don't think she would be mad, embarased, but not mad, well that is how I would feel. But you have done nothing wrong, you were worried and asked for advice and now all is well. JH
