i have a 10wk old boxer who is having an allergic reaction to something, i think she has been at my plants again in the garden but don't know which one......i rang the vets this morning and he said rather than have to pay £30 because they were closed and £14 consultation +any treatment to give her an antihystimine (sp) tablet. I gave her half then 4 hrs later i gave her another but she is still covered in bumps, crying and running around because i think she is itchy and doesn't know what to do with herself,i have just sponged her down with cool water but its made no difference. Just rang the vets again and he said there's not much more i can do but to give her one 4mg tablet at 10pm (i have piriton) so can anyone suggest how i can make her more comfortable, i feel terrible cos she is not happy :( why did it have to be today xmas eve, i should be enjoying the excitement with my kids :(

Jacki, I would not hesitate, TAKE her to another vet. Your vet sounds like he does not want to be bothered on Christmas Eve. If the puppy is in the distress you describe, I would seriously ring another vet and insist on taking her!! Let us know how she gets on, Good Luck, and I hope everything is okay.

thanks for the reply kay, she is still bad and won't settle at all she has more bumps now, rang the vet again and he said there is nothing he can do because she has had the piriton which is what he would give her anyway and to just keep her quiet and sit it out, easier said than done when she is throwing herself about and crying.....just wish i could make her more comfortable :(

Ring another vet, they aren't that clever that they can make diagnosis without seeing the dog.

poodlebabe is right. your baby needs to be seen (Xmas eve or not.)

If the piriton hasn't settled it down by now - she needs to be seen.

if she's still unsettled & uncomfortable - call another vet.

PS - Last year on New Years eve, I needed a vet to come out to see a bitch for me - vet was not helpful - ended up admitting to me she was hosting a dinner party! Didn't go down too well.!!

Good luck & hope your babe is ok.  :)

Merry Xmas.

How is she today, did you manage to get a vet to see her?

she is still the same today, shaking constantly was up with her at 3am, gave her another piriton at 6am but this has now worn off (9.46am) and she is not happy again, the bumps on her back seem to have gone down a bit but otherwise she is the same.....i will go ring round some vets and see what they say, back soon

HI Jacki, if I were you I`d tell ANY emergency vet you get hold of you think she`s having a severe allergic reaction to something but you don`t know what & needs be seen by a vet & the priton doesn`t appear to be working. Does she have a temp at all? try & take it? Good luck :)

Your puppy needs an injection, stand no put off, stamp your feet and insist that you see a vet. They should offer 24 hour cover and you are not getting it. No one not even a vet can diagnose over the phone. Shout and make a fuss and get the service you will have to pay for.
