Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Weeing in her food dish.

Hello.

I have written a number of times on here about my young dog.  She is twelve months old now, and for some reason two weeks ago started peeing on the kitchen floor through the night.  She had been completely dry for nearly 5 months.  I got her cage out and she has been sleeping in there for the past week and half, and was dry every morning.  I guess that might rule out an infection.

Last night I took the cage away and got up this morning, she had wee'd in a empty food bowl and all over the floor.  There must have been upwards of a pint or so in the food dish and a large amount on the floor.

Has anybody any ideas????

You need to leave a bigger bowl out for her ?  :D

Is she due in season? Does she wee frequently during the day? It's possible that she has an infection that makes her need to go, but when she's crated she typically holds it to save her wetting her bedding. Although it is easier for you, it may not be doing her any good. I would suggest you get her urine checked just to be certain. If it turns out she is clear, then I would suggest you carry on crating her for a few weeks.

Good luck.

No she has been spayed. So the season possibility is not an option.

Do you think if she had an infection she would be able to hold when caged, my initial thoughts were that if she had an infection she would probably end up doing it in her cage?????

It's just a thought, but it's possible she'd rather have the discomfort of needing a wee, and keep her crate dry, than lie on a wet bed. If she can get away from her bed, though, she needn't hold it in, and can make herself comfortable. I know that I can hold it a lot longer than I'd choose, if there's nowhere to go. Just a thought.

Yeah, you're probably right, IF she pees again tonight a trip to vets might be a good idea.......thanks for your thoughts.........

I posted my last mail before I had finished it I think.

Even fully "housetrained" dogs can occasionally have accidents and it was probably more accident than design that she went in her bowl.

It may be that she sleeps better in her cage - did you leave the door open or closed.

She was returned to her cage after peeing on the floor threeetimes in a row in exactly the same place.
She had been in her cage for approx 1.5 weeks and I thought it was time to tryt her again without it last night.  BUT , she pee'd on the floor and in a bowl.
