hello i was discusted to see that a litter of irish terrier were broght to the pund with their mother just because they had ticks please read on only for this lady finding out these pups would be dead they have now all been rehomed except for a little boy it is disgraceful * Can anyone preferably the responsible breeders on this board explain WHY a litter of 5 pedgiree Irish terriers was sent into a north county dublin pound to be destroyed?
Are Breed clubs not supposed to protect these dogs and promote the welfare of them? It was the breed club secretary who put the mother and her litter in here because of a tick infestation caused by the original breeder who bred them in a shed with hay?
I am utterly sickened that this happened.
I am 1 person, I do not have a charity or breed club or funds and I took all of these out, got them foster homes treatment and the mother is an angel of a dog who is now safe.
But it is sheer chance that I know the kennel manager in the pound as these were down to be destroyed.
Can anyone answer this question for me?
I have the original breeders name and address and I also have the Club Sec name address and phone number who I called when I heard these were in there only to find out that she put them in.
I am so confused at how this happened. Can anyone enlighten me?*

Thanks for sharing that Ginastarr. I am so upset to hear this as I own an Irish Terrier and know of the hard work that the IT breeders do in Scotland to ensure the very best for their dogs. I am shocked at the actions of the club secretary, and it frightens me to think that anyone who has the pleasure of being involved in such a beautiful and charismatic breed could do such a thing. That ANYONE could do that! The IT community is small and breeders and clubs are generally very helpful and work closely together for the good of the breed, I am sure others more involved in the breed will look into this -I hope. I really am sickened by this, ITs are such a wonderful enchanting breed and I wish the new owners well. Hope you find a wonderful home for the little boy.

That is disgusting I would report them to the Irish Kennel Club and contact personally the president of the Irish Terrier Club (or clubs) and provide them with this information. Make a big noise about it and hopefully something will be done.

I would want to know a lot more about this before I condemed anyone.
For instance - did the breed club secretary or the breeder put the family in the pound
Did they know they would be pts
If owners requested that they be pts why were they rehomed
If the BCS physically put them there was it because s/he considered they would get better homes from there than they would from the breeeder
Not all Breed Club committee members have dogs or have the facilites to keep them, many join committees to stay in touch with the breeds they love when they can no longer have their own.
As I said, I would want to know a lot more about this before I pass judgement

Christine, I really hope you are right. I thought about these wee dogs all night, and can't understand the reasoning behind the Club secretary's actions - Your right, maybe there is more to this. I really hope so.
Ginastarr, well done for helping the little ones. Do you know what is going to happen to the mother?

I used to be on a breed club committee & some members seemed to think that when they had problems (usually because they hadn't listened to advice) they could just dump the unwanted dogs on "The Committee" . They never seemed to consider that "The Committee" consisted of individuals who had quite enough dogs of their own, who looked after their own dogs & took back any of their own breeding when necessary. In the end it was agreed that dogs in urgent need of rehoming would go into commercial kennels & paid for out of rescue funds - not a cheap option! If the facts in this case are as stated, then it's very wrong but I do have sympathy for any Club Official, just before Christmas having a litter of infested puppies being dumped on them just because they happen to be Club Sec. or whatever.
There are usually two sides to every story.
hi everyone i am not the person who rescued these pups i was on another site just clicked in and was shocked to see what happened i intend to email person to find out more will let you know
it is disgraceful
yes the club secretary brought pups and mother to the pound and only for this lady knowing someone from the pound who told her about the pups and mother they would have been pts

After doing breed rescue work for over 10 years, I believe people getting rid of dogs rarely tell you the whole story/the truth. When litters have to be 'rescued' (rather than single pups) it's usually that the owner/breeder just can't be bothered with the hassle any more. We had a number of litters or part-litters over the years. Very sad, but not unique!
yes it is very sad at leas they were saved before it was to late have not heard any more hopefully they will have a nice warm bed for christmas poor little things
