Hi all, My friends cat has been stuck in a tree for over 48hours.
The RSPCA won't help (surprise, surprise) they said get the fire brigade - which we did. They can't get the fire engine close enough to the tree,as it's in a wood. (I'm talking tall tree by the way!) so they couldn't help. Got back onto RSPCA who (after being on hold / transferred etc for ages) said, well......... he should come down. THANKS! They have tried calling tree surgeons, but can't get hold of anyone. They are trying to put an appeal out on local radio for help.
Any suggestions, it's too high to just climb up without any "proper gear or expertise"
He is scared & not got much fat on him to keep him warm. He needs help real soon.
Please, any ideas?
Snoopy. X
PS they are in Kenilworth (warwickshire)

I dont know how true it it (was told this by a tree surgeon) if its a Silver Birch that the cat is stuck up, you need permission from either the council or forristry commisioner, to cut it down! so that could take day or weeks to get!
I found out this when we moved here, two Silver Birches are right outside my house, on my land, but still found that i needed permission to have them cut down! So never bothered!
Have you tried tempting him down with food? do you know anyone that has a slipknot pole (dont know the proper name for them, but the RSPCA use them, and the dog warden) they extend to a certain length some of them, so someone you know might have acsess to some ladders so you can pull him down with it, may sound cruel, but it takes just seconds to to make a quick grab with them, and to free them from it.
May be worth giving the dog warden a call (dont know if he would help though) but its worth a try! The fire brigade will send you a bill if they have to attend to get a cat that is stuck up a tree, was told this when a cat of our got stuck, but she was not up a tree!
I would try leaving food out for the cat first, try and put it up the tree where he can get to it, but low enough that the cat has too come down for it.
Cant think of anything else right now, if i do think of anything else i will post it.
Good Luck, Dean

I tried one local top me nr Chipping Norton but he said if it had been just down the road he would have been there in a shot.
Try any of these and I am sure one will help.

HE'S HOME.
Thankyou everyone for advise.
Dean, we didn't want to cut the tree down, just someone to climb it.
Tried the food etc, no way could we climb a ladder & grab him. - He was well over 60 foot up! & he'd been there since Monday.
We managed to get an appeal out on Radio WM & luckily had lots of help. A tree surgeon came with his safety harhess & climbed up & got him.
He's safe, bit dehydrated & hungry. But nothing that a bit of rehydration fluid / pilchards & a warm by the fire won't sort out.
Thanks again everyone.
:) Hamish has used up 1 of his lives I think.

Hello,
I heard this on radio WM and wondered if it was you having read the post before popping out :D
Karen; also a Ed Dolan/ Franskey listner who listens to Malc and Molly rather than waste energy turning the radio off ;)

Jeangenie I never had you down as a Boyden Babe :D
I like Chris Ashely, I kinda like Boyden but can't quite get into him (you know what I mean if you listen)
We've got Gaunty now, on a Sat morning but he don't half upset folk (good though)
Karen

Also I should just say that Radio WM were brilliant today & they called us back after the appeal to say if he wasn't down by Fri am they'd send a radio car to do a broadcast from the tree! (not quite sure why, but a nice thought eh?) & they were genuinly concerned about Hamish.
PS I thought Dave was very proffessional when talking about the RSPCA on the radio cos when Molly asked him if he'd contacted them he said, "yes but they haven't been too helpful I'm afraid" then she said - well it is a busy time of year for them & Dave said " yes I know, I appreciate that" My guess is, he really wanted to say .....yes, but if Rolf & the cameras were around the RSPCA would have soon been here.
Happy ending - he's safe, that's the main thing.
:)
