Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Getting a Schipperke in Germany
- By guest [de] Date 01.03.02 09:59 UTC
Hello,
I am located in Germany and looking for a Schipperke (most
favourable I would like to have a rare brown one).
Here we have only about 4 breeders who only offer black
Schipp“s (I know the origin colour is black, but I know
that there are also brown ones).
I have searched homepages of dutch kennel clubs wit no result
because they are always written in their language.
Maybe you an give me an input ?
Unfortunately quarantine for a UK-imported dog here is up to
6 months and I think this is impossible for a pup.

Kind regards Petra

Welcome to the forum Petra,

Did you actually locate a kennel in Holland with the colour that you required?
If you have found a dutch kennel, email me and I will make some enquiries for you :-)

Hi Petra

I am an English schipperke breeder who has just exported 2 of my homebred puppies to Germany at the beginning of Feb.

There is no quarantinee requirements for entry into Germany from England or most other countries - my new puppy owner collected them from the animal control centre within 1 hr of them landing in Germany. The earliest age you could have a puppy would be 4mths as they have to be fully vaccinated with the Rabies vaccination being a minimum of 30 days old. I also sent a private health certificate for each puppy after they had been examined by my vet to show they were fit and healthy 24 hrs before departure. Germany only require a Rabies Certificate at point of entry proving that the dog has been vaccinated and it is over 30 days previous.

The lady who had my babies now has colour carrying puppies as their mother was a blonde. There is a Nederland breeder who occassionally produces blondes too. When you refer to 'rare brown' are you talking the chestnut to chocolate browns that are being produced in the USA or the more common Blondes?

If you have schipperkes already you will soon be able to do a DNA check swab test to check for colour genes - todate Vetgen (USA) have identified the Blonde and Brown gene for schipperkes and are now working on the Blue gene. They hope to have the tests available very soon in Europe.

If you would like Fred's details please contact me privately he speaks English well.
