- By kizzistaff [gb] Date 10.12.03 22:12 UTC
Vet here (greater London) was charging 54.00 for scan + extra for sedation. Dont know what the sedation cost though because decided not to have it done.
- By mitch [gb] Date 10.12.03 22:32 UTC
I paid about £16, as nothing showed, I was allowed to go back a week later free of charge.
- By dizzy [gb] Date 10.12.03 23:19 UTC
£54     its making mine look cheap.
- By KMS Date 10.12.03 23:55 UTC
Farmer who has his own scanner and spent years in NZ scanning sheep takes £15 - very reasonable and has so far been 100% accurate with all the people that use him in my area...No clipping of the heavier coated breeds either.
My vet took I think about £20+VAT the last time they scanned for me...
- By dizzy [gb] Date 11.12.03 00:18 UTC
any farmers or do it yourselves in northumberland then ??????
- By KMS Date 11.12.03 01:11 UTC
Sorry Dizzy!! You'll have to 'hoof' it up the road to Stirling!! Wonder how many farmers there are though that scan - Archie doesn't advertise, he's very much word of mouth but seems to have a steady stream of clients that come down from the Aberdeen area too which is a 5/6 hour round trip - app he can tell if the bitch is re-absorbing etc....quite fascinating!!
- By dizzy [gb] Date 11.12.03 01:25 UTC
think im just going to wait and see------she  looks like she is, and as shes 5 weeks next sunday i shouldnt be too long in knowing for sure, --£40 is a lot  when so many of you are paying so much less,
- By sandaharr [gb] Date 11.12.03 07:29 UTC
We only paid £12 for a scan, but that wasn't conclusive and had her x-rayed to make sure and sure enough we saw another 2 pups,Sandra.

Hi Dizzy,  Jackie Molyneux at Consett charges about £22.  Dont know if that is too far to travel for you.  I did a ring around of North East Vets a few years ago for scans, as my own Vet does not do them.  Jackie came out cheapest, Ayres quoted over £70 and Blythmans said they had never scanned a bitch, but would charge the same as for a horse, it would be in excess of £80!
bye
Gwen

- By mollygog [gb] Date 11.12.03 10:21 UTC
Hi  I was quoted 97.50p!! 3 weeks ago, but didn't bother, she is pregnant so it's best to wait :)
- By Fillis Date 12.12.03 17:22 UTC
Paid £39 this morning at the vets. (Lincs)
- By Boxers_uk [gb] Date 14.12.03 12:05 UTC
Hello,

My vet has quoted £30.00 to scan my bitch who will be going next Friday (5 weeks)
Sedation hasn't been mentioned, but is this routine??

My bitch gets quite excitable at the vets (she treats him, along with all other complete strangers as life long friends! :-) )

Is is a quick procedure, I'm guessing they'll do it while she's standing??

Thanks
J
- By dizzy [gb] Date 14.12.03 13:04 UTC
ive nevere ever been offered, or needed sedation for any of mine-i think because theyre shown they tend to stand there when asked !!!   they might wonder whats going on if i lie them down------but soon get over it    :D
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 14.12.03 14:35 UTC
When I've had bitches scanned, they were required to stand up - so sedation would be a disaster!
:)
- By Smudgley [gb] Date 14.12.03 17:53 UTC
She shouldn't need to be sedated, I scan bitches every week, as part of my job & have never sedated one. (or even contemplated it)
She should be standing for her scan.
:)

£22....standing up or sometimes lying down....but def. no sed!
Dizzy, on another topic slightly....do you think an 18 week old sharpei pup would cope with a bounding  8 stone 13 month old bloodhound pup?
- By dizzy [gb] Date 17.12.03 21:38 UTC
it would depend on the bloodhound---id be a bit worried though, ---why>????????   your not are you   :D
- By sam Date 18.12.03 07:13 UTC
no......just an enquiry from someone who has the sharpei & is interested in rehoming a hound. Think it s a no-no though!
- By dizzy [gb] Date 19.12.03 18:39 UTC
i think it would work out providing the owners are sensible about it, not letting them tear around etc until the pei is grown------some would manage it great. -----do you know them at all?????
- By sam Date 19.12.03 21:06 UTC
not really Dizzy. They contacted me in the sumer re: having a hound but I couldnt help them. I replied last week to say there was a puppy available but they had gone & got a sharpei instead. Seems to me they were more interested in the wrinkle than the dog itself?? so decided not to pursue the matter but they rang again to say they were still interested. Personally I think its no-go, but maybe if I meet them I will change my mind. We'll see.
