Topic Dog Boards / General / Any info on respiratory bug going round

Has anyone any information about a possible respiratory bug that may be going round at the moment - North of England area- a friend's dog is depressed, off his food and showing signs of laboured breathing and dislike of cold air. A little CLEAR nasal discharge, but NO coughing. He has seen the vet who said it could be a touch of pneumonia - possibly viral or bacterial.  Is anything nasty 'doing the rounds' at the moment?

I have one of my Labs, Min with a suspected infection. She has had a cough and lots of Phlem but antibiotics finished yesterday and she was showing signs in the middle of the course of improvement but she has started to cough a lot again today so I am off to the vets tomorrow. None of my other three are showing any signs though.

I am in Oxon.

I read this with interest - my dog was in the kennels near the borders and he has a terrible bout of kennel cough (or what the vet thinks is kennel cough).  He's coughing terribly and has been like that since Sunday.  Going outside in the cold causes a severe attack and he does have a bit of a runny nose.  He isn't interested in going for walks (seriously unusual) and is just lying around looking miserable, although he is eating and drinking.  My vet did say that there are a lot of new "superbugs" going around and often vaccines and antibiotics don't work.  I thought he would have improved a lot more than he has by now so I'm hoping that he hasn't got something too serious -although the vet didn't seem overly concerned.  I hope your friend's dog improves as I know its a worry.

Thank you Copper Girl, - except for the coughing, the symptoms sound similar-ish, and my friend's dog is rather slow to respond to the antibiotics - but he is showing some improvement.  Fingers crossed.
