Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Pups have fleas!
- By aceskrbabe16 [us] Date 17.12.03 14:58 UTC
Hello all,
Ever since we got our puppies 3 weeks ago from a foster home, I have noticed they have been stratching themselves like they had fleas. This morning I decided to look for fleas in one of them and sure enough I have found a few fleas crawling around in my poor pup's hair! They are 15 weeks old what is the safest thing to do? Bath? Flea collar? Flea bomb the house? or medication? Please help! Thank you!!

Its best to get stuff from the vet.  You will have to treat both pups, your house, car etc and any other pets you have in order to totally get rid of them.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about the poor little mites, contact your vet to see if he can prescribe a flea powder or spray at such young age I wouldn't just use one bought from the pet shop.

good Luck

You can use frontline on pup's - I treated my pup at 12 weeks with frontline from the vets - just precautionary :)

Having a dog and a cat and several bouts of fleas, I use spot on or advantage or something from the vet and get a household spray, again from the vet.  It's not cheap but believe me the stuff you buy in pet shops and supermarkets just does not work and you're wasting your money.  Comb all the fleas out with a flea comb and drown then (delightful!) - do this outside.  Then treat the house before letting pets back in.  It's easy to control them once you get going.
