I have an 11 month old shih tzu. When we go around to other peoples houses he decides to wet the beds!! Does anybody know why (i think maybe territorial thing) And how do I stop him from doing this?

Hi Sammy,
Is it anybody's house inparticular, do they have dogs and are they allowed on their bed?
Another consideration is....has the dog been neutered?

This is a real problem. And its getting embarrasing! I have to warn people when I go anywhere!

Some of the people have dogs, and some are allowed on beds and some aren't. But it even happens when people do not have dogs.

And no Gizmo hasn't been neutered.

Have you considered neutering him? By doing this, it is possible to reduce his tendencies to be territorial or 'mark'. Is he an aggressive dog? What breed is he? Although 11 months is quite young for territorial tendencies, some do start young

He isn't at all aggressive

The quickest solution is not to allow him into the bedrooms ...

my mother looks after him and she has a dog which is allowed freedom and it isnt fair on her. I would rather find a way of stopping it.
Your mum could spread tin foil over the bed to discourage jumping on it, or look at it that her dog has allowances because its their house and needs to have quiet time away from your pup and keep yours out of the bedrooms using his crate if he has one. Would that work?

Unfortunatly he would probably enjoy rolling on the tin foil. I had no need to use a crate as he was very well behaved from the start (however I think they are a very good idea from other dogs). But now the bedwetting has started and we are not sure why or how to stop him. We have tried many things but nothing seems to stop him.

Put him in the the bedroom.....and when he wets the bed......beat the living daylights out of him....that should work.
p.s Only kidding Sammy, speak to you tomoz on msn
