At what age would you bath a pup or would you just keep babywiping/sponging down the dirty areas?

i got mine into it early on, more so he wasn't 'freaked' by bathtime when he was older, he now (10 mths)jumps in the bath and lets me give him a good scrub!!! No worries ;)

Depends on the breed and the coat. I have a dog who's 4 years old and he hasn't had (or needed!) a bath yet. But he has the type of coat that mud dries and falls off. Stinky bits, where he's rolled in something special) get sponged.
:)
my dog mollie (pom x terrier)hates to be washed she used to like it when she was younger we used to wash her in the sin because she was so small now when she hears the word bath she hides she has a long coat so she has to be washed when she gets dirty poor baby
i have decieded that with new pup(parson ) when i get her that i am going to introduce her to the bath as early as possible will have a short coat so she will be easier to keep clean .
We introduced our 2 yr old Staff to baths at 5 mths and I'm thinking maybe we should have started sooner because she absolutely hates them! Show her the bath and panic ensues and its no fun trying to hold a mass of panicking muscle in a bath I can tell you!

yeah I am also in this dilemma, my chihuahua is 10 weeks old, when should I bath him ?

I suppose it would be possible to stand in bath or shower from a very young age without actually adding the water then just pretend rub without water etc. Then add water as and when they are dirty. They would then be used to the bath. I tend to bath only for shows unless they have rolled in something awful. My boy went through a stage when he hated being washed but it passed as i just took things slowly. My old girl climbs into the shower but she's strange:-)

Hi I hand reared a litter once and at about 5 days old they got a skin infection, the vet said it was because they didn't get the colostrum, which supplys antibodies, so I had to bathe them twice a day for a week they seemed to like it, as long as you dry them properly there doesn't seem to be a correct age:)

Becasue I have heavily coated, high grooming maintenance breed who will require frequent, long grooming all their lives I start them off early, so it is no big thing. So the babes get a first clip/trip at 4 weeks old (battery clippers to keep noise down) and then a bath and blow dry at 5 weeks old, Clip again at 6 & 8 and baths inbetween. This means no panic wehn they go to new homes. As they are enourmously messy to wean (rolling in puppy porridge rather than eating it) they benefit greatly from the first bath, the baby wipes are starting to lose effect by 5 weeks. I do them in a washin up bowl, using baby shampoo and nicely warm water, then a snuggle in a worm towel and blbow dry till dry right through.

my dogs breeder gave mine her first bath and groom at 10 weeks and i suspect used a dryer on her to. Mine jumps in the bath now wether its for her or not and loves a blast of the dryer.
