I'm sure this question has been asked many times however I am interested in finding out as much information as possible on breeding from my boxer dog.

I have been told that he has a slight heart murmour and wonder if you could tell me if this would make him unsuitable for breeding purposes?

IMO having a heart murmur or any other health defect that can be passed on is definitely a reason not to breed.  Boxers suffer from heart problems so only the healthiest ones (and this applies to all breeds) should be bred from

Enjoy your boy's company and maybe turn his energies into competitive obedience or agillity instead of reproduction

A shame your boy has a problem but you're right not to risk passing it onto any potential pups :)

Well done for making a hard decision, I only wish all dog owners were this responsable! :D

There is a breed heart-testing scheme which is in place for the Boxers.
A vet that specialises in cardiology has to test the dog for AS (Aortic Stenosis)
if the dog scores a 0 (zero) or 1 it is considered clear for breeding purposes.
This scheme has been going over 10 years now.
Please be aware that also Cardiomyopathy is being seen within some of the breed.
Hence why they had a big heart seminar at the weekend for the Boxer breed.

In all honesty there are plenty of champion Boxer dogs that don't get much stud work,
I'm with Christine enjoy your boy's company and use his brains instead!
Kind Regards
Kirstine
