Probably a really stupid question, has anyone had a bitch that just didn't go into labour or even show any signs. My bitch last year had one puppy born dead, the vet said if she had gone into labour a few days earlier it would have been alright. She is pregnant again, looks like she has got more than one, and is due any day. I am nervous wreck worrying about it. I am hoping she didn't go into labour last time as she only had one. Has anyone got any thoughts?? :)

Yes we once had a bitch who had i puppy only. We knew this because we were convinced she was pregnant and had a good ultrasound scan. We had to take her temperature evereyday and when it dipped by two to four degrees then we took her in the following morning for a ceasarian. one puppy is often not enough to start labour, size or hormone wise. this is called primary uterine inertia. Can you see pups moving? Could you have a scan to determine numbers? people who do sheep scanning for a living are very accurate. Take your bitches temperature rectally for 2 minutes, twice a day, (vaseline helps)from a week before she is due night and morning and if she does not go into labour 24 hours after the significant drop or goes much past her due date, go to your vet quickly armed with all your information and her previous history. Good luck.

Hi Temperature is 97.5 she has started panting, although she is still eating for England! I've informed the vet and if nothing has occured too much by the morning I'm taking her for a scan and going to take it from there. Thanks for your help very much appreciated :)

If her temps dropped to 97.5 - she will start to whelp within 24hours. If she's puffing & panting sounds like she's in early stages of labour, Good luck.

Hi, how exciting, it sounds like all systems go. Our last litter the bitch was 24 hours in first stage labour before contractions started, we were getting nervous by then..........! Hope all goes well, thinking of you.

Hi I went to the vet this morning, my bitch had to have a ceaser, she had 2 blown up water babies and one 'normal puppy' on arriving home a couple of hours later to my horror I've realised the puppy has no sexual organs to speak of but is weeing through a tiny hole where its 'willy' should be, if you look closely a female organ had tried to develop but it hadn't. Now i have a beautiful little puppy which I'm more than likely going to have, to have put to sleep. Lifes a b***h!! If only me and the vet had noticed sooner I would rather had left it there, luckily the mum doesn't know she had it , and she's doing fine

Thought you'd like to know, the puppy died peacefully in its sleep yesterday, of which I'm pleased. Ever felt that your heart is literally going to break? still it was for the best, mum is making a good recovery. I won't be breeding from her again I've had her spayed
Thanks all for your support:)

So sad I feel very sorry for you
Take care Gina

I'm both sorry and pleased for you. Sorry it was so ill, but pleased it didn't suffer. Hope the bitch (and you) are coping.
