How many toys should a dog have access to at all times?

Gus has lots which are kept in his crate ( which he is never put in by the way  ) but I think you are supposed to keep at least one "special" one away to be used as a sort of reward.

so should i just pay a ttention and see which one is her favorite and then only give that one to her sometimes?

I never thought it really mattered unless your dog is aggressive with toys. Rather then that I was always told to keep some up then alternate them so they don't get bored of their toys. Also to have some special toys that only come out when you play with them.

Hi,

Sals not got loads of toys but a few more than the average toy shop;) anyhow she doesn't have a special toy but seems to favour her kong (no surprises there) and a red ring thing with three hoops ( terrible description I know) and she adores footballs.

I don't keep anything as a special toy, anyone including the children can take any of them off her at any time and she just sits and waits for it back. She's never got bored with any of them yet :D and will fetch the right one, when you ask her to. Is one supposed to be witheld then?

When Gus was small the trainer advised keeping a special toy as a reward really . So I suppose if you arent really training Beau to do anything and therefore dont need to reward her then it doesnt matter.
If you are training her to do something then it maY come in useful :)
Gus is just spoilt and we dont keep one special one for him.

taz too,
his basket is FULL of half eaten toys, and bones (he doesn't sleep in there).
he alternates them himself.
I do keep a tug rope seperate to play with him, he loves it but it doesn't half make a mess when he's ripping it up alone!!!!
