Thank you all for taking trouble to answer. Nice to know someone is in my corner. In answer to your Questions. We have had her since beginning of November and she is now approaching 9 months. I take your point about mopping up after puppies. She is dry throughout the night and day. This is nervous weeing when excited. Which means that indoors we cant praise her, have games or raise our voices in any way. Who can tell why she is frightened? Soon after we brought her hom it was obvious she was of a very nervous disposition. She bows her head and drops to the floor and rolls her eyes displaying the whites. Both indoors and out she is bosterous- lunging at people and other dogs, however trying to controlher makes her frightened , which makes her wee. My husbands loss of sight last year and loss of job earlier this year has resulted in both of us being very uncertain of the future, this will naturally have been transmitted. However she is such a lovable girl and is so willing to do the right thing we want desperately to succeed, but feel we are taking one step forward and one step back all the time. We have heard of a 3 week training course(away) would this be the answer? Thank you for the conact number. I personally wanted this pup. Our 11 year old retriever had died last year and left a huge gap- I wanted to replace the companionship she brought me

If it is nervousness then have you tried some of the remedies for nervous dogs. There are quite a few around that can help give confidence or calm a stressed pooch. Bachs Rescue Remedy, Velrian Tincture?, Moor Gold to name but a few.

A concentrated course away may help but it really depends on what the course was to be and if it would involve you. Some "trainers" can take dogs away and train them for you - the problem there is when they come back to you they are the same as before because it's you as much as the dog who needs the training.

Have you spoken to your vet about it. They may have some ideas. I guess there could also be a physical reason in that her muscles are just not tight enough. I know there is something that they prescribe for dogs with leakage problems, it's sometimes given after speying, that could be worth a try to deal with that problem. If you could fix this problem then that would probably help you deal with the nervousness as you could giver her more praise at the right times etc as it sounds at the mo as if you are not able to do that.

When outside - I'd be inclined to deal with her calmly but firmly and confidently in an upbeat way and totally ignore the weeing - if it's outside it doesn't matter. If she sees you being tense around the weeing it will only make her worse. She needs the positive encouragement when she gets things right or she will never get any better.

I think you have a lot on your plate here and it's going to take some time to get it sorted. Good luck

Sorry I jumped to conclusions before. It's nice to know that you are interested in working on training and behavioral solutions with your puppy. They are much harder work than adults, thats for sure! :)

Me too, from your post it wasn't clear that she was now an older puppy five months on from when you got her. Previous advice should help. Also try to get her outside for training and whenever she gets excited so that you can still praise her as the weeing doesn't matter, do a few little things that will gain her praise so that she feels sure that you are happy with her. At 9 months she still has time to grow out of this habit, I have known goldies and spaniels keep up this until nearly a year, as their sphincters were not that tight. Maybe the sphincter tightening drugs will help!

I would keep her in the kitchen or other areas that are not carpeted during all interactions with you that cause the weeing, and just ignore it and mop up later, but praise her for doing something to please you, keeping a very calm and jolly manner. as she gains in confidence (at leqst with you) the problem should get less. this is natural behaviour with very low ranking members of canine packs!

I am sorry things are so hard for you at present which makes the problem seem so much worse!
