I have a friend whos looking for a dog, he lives on his own in a flat above the vets where he works.  He wants a dog thats easyish to train and will be ok with other people and animals  around the surgery (i no that mainly depends on the dog itself).  He doesn't want a crossbreed but would like to rescue a younger dog.  His been really awkward about this as he doesn't know what he wants so any ideas will be welcome.  The dog will get plenty of exercise and love from him and all who work at the vets!!!!

Thanks for any sujestions, I will give him ideas of good/not so good breeds.

Why doesn't he look round his local rescue centre? He might find the young dog he wants as its near Christmas and now will be when all the poor little strays get bought in. After Christmas might be a good time to look as well. If not I think a Labrador or Golden retriever might be a good dog for him.

Rescue centres rarly have pure breeds and he really wants a pure breed (snob value really!!!)  also goldies and labs are common and he doesn't want dogs like everyone else (snob value again i think!!!)

He does like cavies however so maybe he will end up with one, tho he did change his mind every 5 mins!!!!!!!!!!

Also his not looking for one imdeietly before christmas, more like next year!

ARGHHH MEN ARE SOOO AWKWARD!

Sadly this is a misconception - rescue centres often have pure breed dogs :(  However they, like the cross breeds who end up in rescue, may well come with 'issues' wether those are acknowledge by the people who hand them in, or noted by the kennel staff is another matter :(

breed rescues take many pure breeds out of rescue centres.  I will sujest he goes and looks but its quite away to our nearest!  He has information on all rescue centers from the vets.

Thank you everyone for your help I will give him all your sujestions today.  Maybe he will make his mind up soon!!!!

Well after Christmas Im sure there will be lots of pure breed puppies in the rescue centres (sad) due to people buying the cute thing for Christmas and then finding out little pumpkin in fact wanted the latest Barbie. Oh its too sad to even think about, its bad enough all the dogs having to be there over Christmas let alone more coming in....
