Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Half cat half Cocker!

Well I am certain my Cocker thinks he is part cat, he copies what she does & he uses the cat flap that he can still just about squeeze through. Trouble is that he likes to lie across the top of the chairs in the living room. (the bit at the back of your head) So occasionally you can be sat there watching telly & suddenly a flying Cocker launches to lie across your shoulders. Now I know we should have put a stop to him going on the furniture but Im a softy so he does go on it, but this is getting a bit dodgy, its no joke if youre sat there holding a cuppa. Any suggestions would be very welcome. Hes nearly 7 months by the way.

My friend has a American x English Cocker, he sounds like this (although he doesnt go on the sofa :(  ) He grew up with a kitten and they are best of friends but he plays like a cat, he uses his paws to bat his ball around the room and when he plays with other dogs his behaviour is more cat like than dog like -- until he barks :D :D

Exactly the same as my friends dog - but he does it to other dogs too :D :D  I always thought it was just because he was bought up with a cat, but maybe its just cockers :)

Cockers are clearly descended from cats somewhere way back.  My working cocker pup does the sitting on the back of the sofa / on your shoulders thing.  It is going to get less cute as she gets bigger and heavier! She hasn't so much as seen a cat, yet, btw, so it must be in their instinct.

never mind slap the cat she slaps me lol when you play she will actully hit you very hard back with her paw or if she manages to get my bedroom door open then she will jump on the bed and slap my cheek :D  my breeder said her mother is all paws too so i think it must be a passed down thing ive never come across it before

Well it might be something to do with Cockers but my kittens are also having identity crises' they both think they're dogs and copy Darcy all the time

They both eat absolutely anything they can get, the other night I caught one of them dragging potato peel out of the bin and having a good munch on that.
They come for walks across the fields with us when we take the dog out.

They're both barmy :D

My boxer uses his paws like a cat.  His best sport is chasing leaves pinning them down and then pouncing on them. Slightly embarassing when we are pavement pounding.  Or stalking the ducks with his bottom sticking up

I think all animals that are raised around other animals have identity crisis'   We had a horse while our puppy was growing up.  When it came time for the horse to eat, the dog would stick her nose in the grain bucket and pretend she was eating.  I think sometimes she actually did.  The horse had issues too.  If he was loose in the yard and one of us went out to call the dog, the horse and dog would some running.  In fact, the horse tried to climb on to the porch once.  Our cats both think they are dogs and my puppy that I took when I moved, I am pretty sure she thinks she is a human.
Oh well, that is why we love them right?  They make life interesting.
