I have decided to let my girl have a litter and will get all the usual checks done, I have spoken with my vet who has said there is no reason at all why we should not breed from her she is fit and healthy, we all ready have the stud dog (murphy) so that is not a problem, but would like some tips from other breeders as this is my first time.  I will get the book on the bitch so that I am upto speed and know what I should expect throughout the pregnancy and birth, so all looking for lots of advice.

Comments please I have not posted to get a slagging off but would appreciate sound good tips so that everything hopefully runs smoothly with no problems.

Nikki
Why do you feel the need to mate her with a 6 month old dog ? f you really feel you want to breed fom your bitch why not with an older dog? I know it is possible to mate from a dog so young but personally feel it is too young . He is virtually a baby .
You mentioned on your other post about the possible difficulty of keeping both seperate while she is in season - can I ask what arrangements you will make fo her next season ?
Staffy pups are ten a penny at the moment - they seem to be advertised everywhere and no doubt you will sell all the pups but I feel homing Staffys requires that little bit extra responsibility due to the breed and the amount of idiots out there who want one :(
Are you prepared to tae a pup back if something happens in the new home and they can no longer keep it? Would you be able to look after it given that you aleady have two dogs ?? This isnt a slagging off - just want to make sure you have looked into everything before you go ahead

Hi Lel,

Thanks fo your comments we have always intended to breed Ruby for one litter only and them have her spayed, we previously had another dog which we lost in the summer who we were going to use for stud but Ruby was to young, we now have Murphy and did not think he would be mature enough for at least another 6 to 12 months but advised by vet he could be ready now, however Ruby should not be due for her season which wil be her 3rd until feb 2004 but noticed on Monday that she is in season and not sure when she actually came into season as she is very clean and not very swollen this time round, so panic set in but we could already be to late to separate them and been advised that if she has already caught not to do anything about it apart from the natural process, so we discussed it at length and decided to carry o as it has already been the intention, I hope that this does not so unresponsible as that is not the case at all, we love our dogs to bits.  I know it would be ideal to waite until Murphy is older that was the intention but this was not prepared for as she came into season a lot earlier than she should have.

I hope that this explains I would just like as much information as possible.

Hi Niki,
I have to agree with everything Lel has said.  Also what if your 6 month old puppy has got either a health problem or a major fault that is not going to show itself until he an adult. Why have a litter at all? if you want another pup why not rescue or buy?  Or if you are going to go ahead there are loads of good healthy proved stud's out there.
I have 2 bitches & 1 dog, the girls are now spayed, but before that we managed to keep our boy away from them, It was a bit of a nightmare but we did it.
Trace.
