I have gathered (I think) from this site that if you want to show a dog it has to be 'entire' (a relief to John I suspect), is this also the case if you are interested in obedience or agility?

And is obedience actually done at a competetive level? And can you do both? And can they both be done by children? I could do the obdience bit but not the agility. I had thought they we probably couldn't get into these as the two groups of classes I know about around here I don't really like (one from expereince and one from word of mouth), however I am going to look further a field and use the sites sugested somewhere else which I now need to locate again!

A dog doesn't have to be entire to be shown, but it is unlikely to do well if it is not entire.

A dog doing obedience or agility does not have to be entire.

Obedience is done at a competitive level, in fact it is a very high precision competition, Yes, both obedience and agility can be done by children, and yes they can both be done with one dog. Where abouts are you, possibly someone could help with clubs. Other activities with dogs you could consider are flyball, and the fairly new, but rapidly growing, heelwork to music (dancing with dogs). There are competitions for this as well.

I am in North Notts, somebody somewhre made a reference to Mansfield, and then people (I think Leigh) made reference to a dog training association and I thought durr just cause I'm not keen on the two I know about locally I can DRIVE!

So this is something I thought I would look into as my kids are both very active and it would be good for the dog too, and I don't really think I would be too good at showing I would take it far to personally, it's bad enough now when we go to a gathering once a year from where we got my current dog from and he doesn't get a place I want to know WHY, he is the most handsome gentleman I have ever seen!

Hi Reefer

I live in North Notts too and show my dogs, but I have also just joined a Dog Training club held on a Sunday morning, its great fun, and I think might take over from showing, if you would like details of the club e-mail me and I will be happy to pass details on to you.

I have emailed you!

Reefer, I do not recall mentioning Mansfield? Was it for an agility/obediance club?

Sorry, I found your post a bit confusing? Are you are refering to the Puppy Training Classes thread? Personally, I would take in to consideration that such organisations are in direct competition with each other. I am sure that there is good and bad on both sides. It is up to you to make your choice from what you see and how you wish to train your dog.Good sales patter doesn't necessarily mean the 'goods' are up to it :-)

Sorry didn't mean to confuse! Yes that would be the thread!

From memory i think it may have been Caroline who mentioned the club, at Mansfield...if I 'm right it is run by a lady who is not a member of anything but is very good and recommended by Caroline.

Think that's right!

By the way.a good club should be happy for youto go along without the dog to check it out, make sure you like it etc

My dog attempts to do scent hurdling, but I think we may be the only team in the country, so that's probably not a lot of help!
