Got the whistle for Sal and the recall is going well. She really respond quickly to it. We have been practising in the house/garden too and I must say I will definately use it all the time now.

She seems to know the whistle means come back "NOW" not when she feels like it.

I have spoken as well to the lady who walks the labs & FCR's too and she controls each of her dogs with a different tone, her husband works their dogs, but she's in the park to socialise their new puppy a gorgeous black Lab bitch called Anna.

I think I've fell in love with Labs :D

Hi Karen, well done with the whistle with Sal, I started using the whistle with my lab puppy from day 1 when she was 7 weeks old. I had never used a whistle before so wasn`t sure what I was doing at first. She responds really well to the whistle on her recall when we are out now and she even comes back now when playing with other dogs (when she knows I have some liver cake!!) on 1 - 2 blows on the whistle from a distance. She also sits sometimes on a continuous blow on the whistle. I am now hiding things around the garden and teaching her `find, get on,` with left and right hand signs just saying `watch me` .

You`re right about the whistle meaning come back `now` I always get a more instant response as well.

We are also whistle fans, the instant attention from the blow of a whistle is great.  I'm well impressed and fingers crossed progression continues!!
I just wanted to add that my lad loves the find game, I hid five treats last night and kept sending him away to find and each time he found he returned to me, and I sent him away again, Oscar found all five, he's so clever!!! Great game!  Sorry to butt in - Happy Owner and Oscar

I find the whistle great with my young lab, it seems to cut through the *fog* in her brain!
