Abby poos in the garden every morning. The perfect poo - firm and easy to pick up. An hour or less later, when I take her for a walk, most of the time she poos again. In fact, sometimes she will poo two or three times more. These poos are softer and the more of them there are the smaller and more liquid they become (sorry folks!)
After careful scientific observation :-), I have come to the conclusion she is forcing herself to poo and speeding it through her system. Either it's marking behaviour or just the joy of pooing on a walk that's the cause. If I cannot take her on her walk she will not poo again until late afternoon or evening - and again they will be solid. I have never had a dog that did this before. It aggravates the heck out of me because a great deal of the time I end up needing to clean her rear end after a walk. Not to mention picking up the poo becomes something of a chore, if not impossible.
Does anyone else have a dog that does this?

Mine will do their's in two instalments and yes the first instalment has had more walter removed than the second which has no doubt come from higher up the system and has had less time to have the water removed.

Oh yes! My boys (not the girls) do exactly the same. They all 'perform' in the garden before we go out, but the boys will completely empty themselves while we're out. Fortunately where we walk, the landowner doesn't insist on 'picking-up' (it doesn't bother his sheep!).

well you should always pick up no matter where you are, the sheep might not mine but anybody else walking in the field and stepping in it would!

Yes they could easily step in it while avoiding the sheeps doings, lol :D

well i'd rather step in sheep poo than dog poo just cos the owner is too lazy to pick it up!

Most dogs eat so much sheep poo that it's only going back where it came from - just recycled! (By the way I have the landowner's permission to walk the dogs in her fields - in fact we walk together - and she doesn't clear up after her dog, either! In fact it's one reason why she bought the fields in the first place.)

makes no difference whether you own it or not the responsible thing to do is pick it up!

Think the birds would be a bit disappointed if I picked up my dogs poo from my field. From a public place yes, but my own field, why should I. It soon goes and the birds and beetles love it. If I do pick it up and bin it, it will finish up on a land fill site so what is the difference at least this way I deal with my own.

Of course we should clear up from footpaths, town parks, etc but to clear up something that is biodegradable from a field is just so..... well anally retentive :D

Especially from a (private) field which is grazed by sheep and fertilised by pig manure. But then, the local potato fields are routinely spread with the 'emptyings' from the sewage works ...

smart answer! so all frequent walkers to your field don't need to pick up you so its do as i say and not as i do, so if a family was out walking through the countryside with children its too bad if they step in your dog poo , not so smart!

But there
aren't 'frequent walkers' to this field (not mine actually, but my neighbours') apart from me and the landowner, any more than there are to your garden, because there is no right-of-way crossing it. And we don't mind what we step in! Wellies are wonderful things!
If a person chooses to walk there, then fine (as long as they do no damage and don't disturb the animals), but what they step in is their own lookout! If they haven't learned how to wipe their feet before they go in their house, then that's their problem.

No one should be in my field, and would be asked to leave and take their children and plastic bags and tins of drink with them. My field is not public property any more than your back garden.
Are they stepping in the dog poo before or after stepping in the cow, sheep, horse, rabbit, etc.,etc, poo? If you don't want to step in poo, you shouldn't go walking over a farmer's field.
I'm also one of those disgusting people who don't pick up in a private field. My farmer landlord also doesn't follow his collies around with a plastic bag.

why such smart cocky answers all the time? the councils are doing their best to encourage the public to pick up their dog poo why do you have to be so different why not pick it up anyway whether its your field or not i don't leave poo in my garden and dogs poo is far more nastier than sheep or cows pat!!
Do you mean 'why such realistic answers?'. You obviously don't live on a farm in a rural area. I do.

What is the point of picking up in one field so it can be spread in another, JR do think what you are saying please. Yes, if your dog poos in the street you pick up, if it poos in the flower garden your pick up, and where do you put it, in the bin, and where does that go, to be spread in a field. Lets have some common sense please, there is no point in picking up in a private field just so it can be spread on a public one.

What makes you think that dog poo is worse than that of farm animals? No true, if your dog eats farm yard poo the first thing you should do is treat for tape worm, just in case.
LOL@ all of the answers to JR :D Brilliant I luv em :D
Christine, Spain.
Any way JR, got no intention of picking up after my lot in my field cos we get the tastiest mushrooms :D
Hope you don`t like/eat mushrooms cos you don`t want to know where they come from

Bess does more poos when we're out walking. I've always put it down to the excitement of going a walk and the exercise "moving things along". Don't know if I'm right though. I've never thought much about the consistancy before but yes, the ones at home are always firm and on a walk sometimes they are softer.

My dogs have always been the same as this - firm at the beginning of the walk and possibly looser later - I agree - the walk/run speeds things up, especially if you feed a bulky diet!
Our dogs the same we've started taking a bottle of water with us then we can clean up as much as we can and wash the rest away, you really should clean up after your dog where ever you are its not very nice for anyone.

Beano, now there is a different story. You can guaruntee that he will go straight after breakfast(got wise to this, now feed him out side!!!!!!!!!) When I take him out, he will do at least 2 more piles, wetter, harder to pick up, and normally on the direct root of 800 childrens path to school!!!!!!!!!!! I Pick it up ,but when it is like that, and he WALKS when doing it. Its not easy :(

Pup does hers in garden and outside in field as for the adult she refuses point blank to do any toilet outside so has to be taken to the field 3-4 times a day for both.
